Blue squares around buttons

Recommended Posts

With the latest update all buttons now have a description and  a blue square around every button - how can I get rid of these new features? I cannot press the buttons in the FBW A320...

Thanks

I wonder what genius thought up making the mouse highlight blue, and not work?

The new (default) mouse option is called “Lock” mode, and it actually works quite well - but not unless you go to the mouse settings and define the left and right mouse buttons and scroll wheel to work in lock mode. These assignments are not done automatically, which absolutely should have been done by Asobo if they were going to use this as the default mouse behavior. You need to assign the left and right buttons as “primary” and “secondary”, and the wheel as an “up/down” manipulator.

The advantage of lock mode (when properly set up) come into play when trying to rotate a control (like heading select) in turbulence. In “legacy” mouse mode, unless you hold the mouse pointer directly on the heading knob, rotating the mouse wheel to adjust it won’t work. This can be difficult to do when the VC is moving up or down or side-to-side in turbulence.

With the new “lock” mode, (when properly set up), you would first left click on the headIng select knob, which will cause it to become highlighted in blue. You can then rotate the mouse wheel to adjust the heading, and the pointer does not have to be held directly over the knob. The pointer can be anywhere. To unselect the heading knob you would left click again, (or right click).

This is actually a useful feature, but because the mouse buttons and wheel are not automatically bound to the correct assignments for lock mode on initial installation of SU5, it appears to not do anything (other than highlight the knob) if you attempt to use it “out of the box”. If you see a question mark in the tool tip that pops up, the assignments are not set correctly.

The tool tips can also now be disabled for instruments and controls, which was not possible before.

Great. The turbulence thing was always a pain.

Many thanks for the detailed description. I would have just turned it off as an annoyance without fully understanding this new feature if not for your post. Mouse actions loosing focus over knobs during bumpy rides was a major nuisance until this new feature fixed that.

I have set "Cockpit Interaction - Primary Action (Lockable)", "Cockpit Interaction - Secondary Action (Lockable)", "Cockpit Interaction - Increase (Lockable)" and "Cockpit Interaction - Decrease (Lockable)" to Left Click, Right Click, Wheel Up and Wheel Down respectively. Hope this is the correct setting.

These are some great tips.🍺  I was wondering the same thing but hadn't had time to play with the settings to get what I needed back.

I guess I am missing something. Since the last update, when I mouse over buttons they turn blue but nothing happens. I cannot change any values. I read above posts and see I have to  "properly set up the lock mode."  So I go to the settings for mouse and all I find is settings for various functions but nothing about "lock mode". Please clarify for this mental  retard.

Found it. Go to General options, open Accessibility then Cockpit interaction system and change to LEGACY.

Alternatively, if you zoom in close enough the camera stops shaking.
