Such beautiful procedural grass - supported by Unreal engine and Unity and many other releases.

Respect for this part of your post.

But when you turn it into this...

Time for X Plane to have decent ground level detail, and not be 15 years behind the curve all the time!

You turn into a troll.

Why??

Imagine if you worded it differently.

There are heaps of releases these days with procedural grass, including of course MSFS 2020.

It can be generated for any location/season at any place.

It must be a feature of the next XP.

You are unnecessarily hitting the same spot again as this and the recent one you've just posted, should be possible with the new system, including the wind animations and possible many other cool aspects that I can think off since now Xplane knows what "seasons" means. (a neat idea: together with some perlin noise, it can create harvest patterns in crop as art assets)

If they create the proper art assets out of the box for grass and bushes too, yet to be seen, but the new engine appears to be able to do that.

I'm referring to a seamless integration for ground textures *where data is insufficient* from a developer perspective/convenience. Not about the actual quality of grass.

Also a little note, IIRC outtera uses geometry shaders for grass, not a very efficient choice today in compute age. Xplane's new vegetation sounds much more promising performance wise (think LOD as well), than frankly any other implementation, Vulkan is really making stuff possible.

But lets wait till they show us everything they got for Xplane NG, they might have more stuff under the hood for terrain.

Why would the truth need to be worded differently? Why does telling the truth turn a poster into a troll?

Saying XP is 15 years behind is actually putting it nicely and not trolling. The fact that people choose to ignore the truth should not force other people not to tell the truth anymore, wouldn't you agree?

There are opinions, and then there's the truth.  You obviously don't know which is which.

Look it's nice if you can tell yourself that. It's just not true.

People that have seen other game engines (yeah I know, engineering tool and all that) during the last decades know for a fact that XPs visual offerings are at least 15 years behind.

You're just not helping your cause at all as long as you're spreading that everything is just fine™ when you should have been in LRs ears for years telling them to up their game - even if it would just have been to secure your income. I am aware you took another decision.

Have it your way! Of course, 10 percent of the customer base you had during the last years is still a customer base, and if you decide that's enough, then good for you!

As a side note, I am not surprised you evaded answering any of my questions.

Find me the equation that tells you X-Plane is 15 years behind.  Especially the part about PBR.

People?  Names, please.  REPUTABLE names.

I have a cause?  Please.  I never said everything was "just fine".  I've pointed out many of X-Planes faults.  Whether or not you choose to read them, is up to you.

Did you not see the image I posted?  The videos that were posted?  The fact OpenGL is now ancient history and LR have moved to Vulkan and Metal?  The new lighting engine?  And more things that are coming?  Would you like every developer to move in with Austin and throw him ideas whenever they pop into our head??

This stuff has been worked on since before the Vegas expo.

I love the fact that you try to hurt me in the pocket by assuming you know my numbers.  Hardly a "truth".  But the fact is, no one, except my publisher, my dev partners, and my family know my finances.  You trying to throw numbers around, pretending to know, is laughable.

Incorrect.  I just can't be bothered.  Plus I'm too busy to go into detail with a person who's post history is over 90% MSFS related and who only comes here to troll a post that shows something that has people chomping at the bit on the X-Plane facebook page.  One comment in particular, "Digging that knife deeper into MSFS' back" gave me a little smile.

Have a nice day.

I believe you've forgotten to add you might also want XPnext to also add a small bee you can fly and hop from flower to flower 🤣

I'm just kidding but wouldn't this be cool for a change! Even with a "challenge" mode: avoid as many windshield as possible for 5 minutes!

LOL  no i prefer to fly a heli and hop from a helipad to a helipad :)

Here in India we have too many mosquitoes and a few times they do land up in your nose  I wantz that happening in XP

Lots of text for a person that can't be bothered and is too busy.

If you're still looking for reputable names to weigh in about the 15 years behind thing, look out for anyone with eyes in his/her head. (Hint: You might just listen to what Austin Meyer himself says in the Webinar.)

And finally, I don't care to much about your numbers - I just expect them to decrease. Tell me about them in 18 month, will you? 😉

Oh, and the comment about digging the knife in MSFS' back makes me smile as well, but probably for a different reason 😄

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is an open world game that came out 15 years ago and it has procedural grass and 3d trees and landscape that betters XP of today.

I think he has issues differentiating between "his plane" and "the world his plane flies in".
