current capitalism does not do better either. A person works thinking that one day he will deserve something. Along the way, he pays his debts and then dies.
So when we buy a flight simulator, something that is made to dream and be happy, we just want it to work and be ours.

You don't own all of your software, you've never owned (most of) your software, you own the right to use it, not the right to do with it whatever you please with it.

Read the ToS/EULA of anything you own.

Really, everything is borrowed in this world. even our own body, and with it our thoughts.

Some free beings managed to understand along the way that something you buy with the money you have earned from your work: it belongs to you.

the other thing is called: renting.

This is not entirely true. You actually buy a license to use the product. And this license may impose some limitations on what you can and cannot do with it.

Some of the things that typically you are not allowed to do include: reverse engineer the program (or even start to study it), intercept incoming and outgoing dataflows or decrypt stored files to investigate on data formats and encryption algorithms. Another thing that you are not allowed to do is alter the behavior of the program by hooking or hijacking in any way and by any means the natural procesing flow.

Interestingly, some of these activities may be allowed in some countries and considered criminal offences in others. 

This is done to protect the intellectual capital of the software producer. If they want to exploit some potential developments of their product at a later time, you cannot allow Joe Hacker to break their code, place a hook here and there, and publish today, maybe as freeware, something that they had planned for next year.

And about rental: yes, this is actually what some software producers do: they let you rent the software, preinstalled on the cloud.
