Of the three, I choose the D.III for looks.

I'm partial to the Savage Carbon. The Savage Grravel just seems too cartoonish to me.

I prefer more realistic underpowered planes myself.

In spite of being frustrating in high altitude flying where she is not meant to fly, there is indeed something to say about flying the aspirated Cub higher up. You have to plan with care your trajectory and even so, the map not being the territory, you have nasty surprises (the wretched pass is higher than I though !)  which call for decisions during the flight. And you better keep an hawk eye on your speed and tune your mixture to the limit.

Now, if I were a different kind of poster, at this point I'd launch into one of those "are you crazy? you need glasses, man" sort of rants.

But I'm not that kind of guy, and I recognise that all taste is personal.

But . . .

The P40? Have you never seen a P51? or a Spitfire? Even a P47 is prettier than that thing <grin>

Oh, but I do like the Albatros. Not quite as much as the Hawker Fury, but close (and anyway, I guess it's not the same category).

To be honest I have always thought the Spitfire and P51 had a bit of a feminine pretty girl look that did not suit a warplane.

...  and the Daimler Benz engines sounded better as well, especially once that compressor whistle kicked in   😄

Well, if you want something a bit more brutal, I'd have to go for this -

One day two P51's flew over our house all day long. They travel around the nation to different airbases selling rides, county fair circuit, and such).

The Spitfire is my second choice for wwii fighters. Everybody seems to like the looks of the shorter wing version rounded elliptical wings.

One of Agatha Christie's earliest novels is about the secret gov't Spitfire design plans that get stolen. In an early BBC episode, deep voiced David Suchet had to really act to become the mincing Perot, LOL.
