August 24, 20214 yr Hey guys, whats the best way in game to find out Winds and QNH when approaching an airport? (I don't mean deafult ATC). As when flying on VATSIM and there is no ATC Available. Luka Makhviladze
August 24, 20214 yr Author But what I'm looking for is source to be FS2020 not the 3rd part providig real metar (As they could be different) Luka Makhviladze
August 24, 20214 yr Littlenavmap takes the wind strength and direction from msfs and shows an arrow with the speed. I run it in the background and alt+tab to get in and out. There is a setting within msfs to allow you to keep using it with a nother window in the foreground, so I size it to about a quarter of the screen. I can use it as a map and get all my ILS, NDB, VORs and airport info whilst still flying. Works superbly with no effect on performance. Hope this is the help. August 24, 20214 yr unreal weather - live metar shows the current metar report. https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/2020/09/unreal-weather-live-metar-released.html Also, if you are using the FBW a32nx the MCDU has the ability to receive the current metar and print it out. MSFS appears to be quite accurate in reproducing real-world frequencies. The ATIS usually comes in much sooner than it is selectable by using MSFS ATC>Nearest Airports. If the real-world charts show more than one frequency, you may have to experiment.

August 24, 20214 yr It is my understanding that the sim uses real world metar data for departure and destination (IF those locations have a valid metar reporting station nearby in the real world). I'm sure I'll be corrected by someone if I've misinterpreted this. 😏 The Meteoblue forecast engine is then used to pull in the weather conditions for the flight route. Overall. I've found this combination to be fairly accurate and it allows for dynamic weather conditions (though it does miss sometimes). My main concern is what is the destination airport's conditions - specifically, wind direction/velocity and cloud cover/ceiling so I can change my approach/runway if necessary. I usually do the following: If using navigation systems like the g1000 NXi or WT g3000, I tune in the destination ATIS and keep it available on COM 2. If the destination doesn't have ATIS or I can't get a report soon enough, I use an online METAR report (if available) for that location (MetarReader.com, etc.) If using the GTN750 Pro mod, I simply call up the metar report for any airport instantly right on the panel. I always turn on the wind indicator option of whatever nav system I'm using (if available) so I can verify wind direction during the approach. I can only think of a couple of flights where the METAR didn't match the approach conditions. In those cases, FS was apparently a little behind the real world data, because it's usually been very close. In an approach I flew last night, the surface winds changed 3 times in the last 30 min. of my flight, so I'm glad I kept tabs on it. Randall Rocke

You can simply click on the airport in the map, and it will bring up the weather window (on the bottom left for me). It pulls the weather data from MSFS, so it is the exact conditions in the simulator.

August 24, 20214 yr I just checked the LittleNavMap online documentation. LNM can pull weather from FSX, P3D, or XPlane, but there's no mention of MSFS. There are options for using the weather at the online services like VATSIM, as well as taking it straight from NOAA or one of the Active Sky products, but that's it. AFAIK, there is no way to pull weather data out of MSFS, at least not so far. An alternative would be to use Rex Weather Force or UNREAL Weather, both of which inject real time weather into MSFS. Then all one need do is access any one of the many sources for real world weather that are available online. You can still get a few oddities because the various system get out of sync, but usually it should work fine. Cheers! Seems like this has been said. 15 minutes ago, jrw4 said: An alternative would be to use Rex Weather Force or UNREAL Weather, both of which inject real time weather into MSFS. I have Rex weather force mainly so I could have an alternative wx system based on METARS if I wanted it. I wasn't sure if / when we'd get a better solution within MSFS. I think all of this will work itself out eventually. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

Literally the wx at a metar resolution is simply not even generated outside of a nominal 45 mile bubble. Therefore there is nothing to query within the sim for anything outside of the ATIS radio range. The level of data is simply not generated until you get within range.
