Sim Updating Problem - once again

Featured Replies

Just went to fire up MSFS and got a message a "new mandatory update is available. Please update MSFS in the Mircosoft store before launching"

I can't find where to do this. it shows i have the sim bought and installed.

Downloads and update selection in the store do not list my sim.

Under "installed" it shows the sim but the only options are launch (which brings me back to the store or when the elipses is clicked the options are Share or pin to start.

Also, it indicates it would love to sell me another copy.

Any thoughts on how to proceed would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I had same problem.  I uninstalled from pc then reinstalled.  Took hours but it did have the new update when finished.

Yeah everyone went through this debacle...well almost everyone.  You'll have to browse the Microsoft Store for Xbox app.  Dowbload that. And then go back into Microsoft store and your sim update will begin.

Through the Xbox app the only option I get is to uninstall. You can also launch it here but it takes me back to the store.

Try this:

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base & hegykc MFG Crosswind modded pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S for VR

Here I have 2 MSFS pc’s :

one needs the Xbox app installed to get updates in the MS Store.

the other updates fine without the Xbox app installed.

Beats me ….🥳

The bug with this update is that the Microsoft Store won't show you the update for MSFS (assuming you purchased MSFS from the Microsoft Store).  By installing the X-Box app, the Microsoft Store then is able to show you the update for MSFS.

Don't ask us why.  We have no idea, only Asobo and Microsoft know.  Supposedly, other games in the Microsoft Store are facing this same bug.

So to recap, you don't use the X-Box app really at all.  Rather, the installation of the X-Box app allows the update to be shown in the Microsoft Store.  Is that lame?  Yeah, it's very lame.

Is the other PC using Steam for MSFS?  Because if you purchased MSFS off of Steam, you don't need the X-Box app and you can get the update fine, from what I understand.  Otherwise, it's possible that your other PC may have the X-Box app installed, or maybe it's using Windows 11, where this bug doesn't manifest itself.

The other pc is on W10 and does not have the XBox app installed.

Till WU5 my server also did not have the app installed but would not start anymore after the update.

Installing the XBox app solved it then.

You have me curious. Why would you have 2 MSFS pc's?

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).
