Hello simmers,

I used to have the navigation/ map opened en dragged to my second monitor.

I closed it for a change and noticed a fps increase of about 12 fps ! Probably you all know that allready,  but I just found out.

During taxiing it can be usefull, zoom in and see taxi ways.  But from now on I'll close that screen once I'm at the runway..👍

It's the same for me, the sim runs better without pop up windows dragged to another monitor.

The fps drop can be prevented if you connect the 2nd monitor to the internal graphics controller (Intel, or whatever). This requires of course that you have the main monitor connected to a separate Nvidia (or other) separate graphics card, which usually applies. Plus, you have to make sure the internal controller is activated in the BIOS (which may or maybe not the case).

While I usually run external applications networked, I tried this with the TDS GTN running on the 2nd monitor connected to the main machine time ago, and it worked.

No guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try. Some others had success with this, too.

Kind regards, Michael

Thanks for the advise,  but actually it runs smooth enough. I just noticed it 😊

Indeed! Ditto the ATC panel if you put that on a second screen.

Thanks so much for this tip! Seems to work. Am I right in thinking that this also frees up VRAM/resources on the graphics card? Are there any downsides? EDIT: Placebo possibly but I'd say there is a benefit.Task Manager now shows two GPU's with my main card running at 80% give or take whereas before it was over 90%. So I'm calling it a win!😀

I wonder if it comes with degraded cpu performance?

Not that I can see. Not sure if the 'integrated GPU' is in fact just a virtual GPU though? Says it's an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600. I have no idea if this is a separate chip or part of the CPU? Either way it's definitely worth doing. I now have more legroom to up a setting or two. Tip of the year as far as I am concerned partly  because I was getting some flickering with the second monitor connected to the graphics card.

Interesting, I have the gpu turned off on my cpu. I may turn it on and give this a shot for the second monitor

I'd give it a go. I really would. I'll be interested to know how it works out for you. I'm pretty sure it's a win win for those running two monitors.

So, I tried it. It works! I dragged the atc menu to a second screen that is now powered by the onboard intel GPU. The FPS before were 52. And after they were 52! Brilliant.

😂 (It's the lowest form of wit you know.) But what about your GPU load? Mine is lower. You probably have a beast of a PC. I don't.

PS One oddity is that MSFS now locks the Frame limit to 50% of the secondary monitors refresh rate if you switch on VSync at 30 rather than the primary display. But that's OK. I think?

I use G-sync so don't enable V-Sync. I also have  3090, so, performance is epic anyways. I noticed the onboard GPU only uses 5% to display the ATC window on separate display and doesn't cause any hiccups, so all seems good so far.

I did try dragging the PMS GTN 750 over and also the VFR map, it was a no go, it halved the FPS.

Use Little Nav Map on your second monitor. It's far more detailed and doesn't reduce FPS at all. It's free too.
