Orbx, Seafront's Global Shipping and AI ships wakes

Featured Replies

In it's Sept 30, 2021 Feedback Snapshot (Development Update Sept 30, 2021) MSFS lists "Wakes for AI Ships" as a project (Item #20) that is not scheduled for release until 2022.

And yet as sold in Orbx's website, developer Seafront's "Vessels: Global Shipping" lists wakes in ships as available now.

Is Seafront's implementation of ship wakes working well in MSFS?  Thank you.

P.S. I'm aware of the freeware version, but I'm hoping tech support with the paid version is more predictable given the current circumstances..

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Works really well for me! The wakes are a little short but nothing too bad. It's cool sitting in a float plane watching ships putz around!

Are there more ships and boats and routes? Noticeable? Also, can you find them in lakes and seas?  Thank you.

Yes there are a TON more. Very noticeable. I don't think I've seen any in lakes but honestly I haven't looked that hard. Next time I fly around the Great Lakes I'll pay more attention!

Any ferries around your NY scenery?

Noticed still very few ships in the NYC Area. Both products are still missing a good amount of models (the ORBX payware you asked for and the Global AI Ship Traffic from Nielsen, freeware), that's maybe the explanation.

But wakes are not implemented yet in the Nielsen's version.

The freeware option (Nielsen GAST) includes the Staten Island ferries

Seafront just uploaded an update to Orbx Central. I have to go check it out. More ships maybe?

@Midnight Music Thank you. I'm still sitting on the fence on Global Shipping. But, I have Enhanced AI though which is required by Global Shipping. Enhanced AI has an upgrade (to v1.30) and I upgraded. The one page document doesn't really say anything. Do you know if there is a change log for the upgrade somewhere?

I read on the ORBX site that there's an improvement to the wakes. There might be other stuff, I still need to go look.

Hi All

We have rolled out wake updates and minor LOD improvements to both Enhanced AI (which also benefits Global Shipping) and the Vessels Core library which underpins all of our regional sceneries. Vessels Core also includes new models in support of the newly released Vessels: UK South East.

Further wake and effect updates will be coming in the future across the products. Global Shipping will get additional traffic (including Great Lakes) and models in future updates too, although not necessarily all at the same time.

We have posted changelogs and updates on the official forums here:

[RELEASE] Vessels: UK South East - Third Party Addon Discussion / Product Announcements - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Enjoy!

Vessels:  South East looks amazing.  That's my neck of the woods so I'll definitely be investing.  I love the fact that it has the Isle of Wight ferries and FastJet included too.

The wakes looks good at low altitudes, but not so good higher up.
