Update niggles MSFS

Featured Replies

Hello all,

As usual, I have had a few problems with the update which have been largely resolved after three days. However, a couple remain that I need some help with if possible.

1. My mouse will not click or activate the ATC screen. It will, though, click on things in the cockpit. I do not have a clue how to sort this one out.  I ensured in controls, that the mouse was default and that sorted out the clickspots in the cockpit but I still cannot click on ATC commands to activate them.  I cannot also click on close ATC (X) and,

2. My Google maps replacement which worked well prior to the update now goes into the black screen for a little while and then comes up with "click on any key to continue" When I do that the screen just goes away and does nothing else.  I have deleted the contents of the folder it is in and then unzipped it again into that folder, clicked on the new run.bat using run as admin but the same thing happens.  I am thinking that there may be something that is not being deleted in order to ensure a clean Re-Install but I cannot find what or where it may be.

At this stage everything else is working well but I am really getting of having to go through this with every update, and if MSFS was not so bloody good I would abandon it forever as being not worth it.  I do keep getting sucked back into the vortex though LOL

Any help or tips appreciated (as usual)

Regards to all

Tony

Hi Tony,

First, the obvious. Have you cleared everything out of your community folder to see if an addon is causing the ATC issue?

As for the Google maps, have you grabbed the latest version from Flightsim.to? It has been updated several times since SU7 was released.

All the best,

Jim,

Yes to both mate.

It started off with no community folder and I had the non rotation of the world etc. I read the fix for that and found that the mouse was not on default. I corrected that and that is when I discovered that the mouse works everywhere except on the pop up ATC.

Google maps I have downloaded and deleted the last three versions and they all stop at click on any key to continue. Doing that simply shuts down the whole process.  This is why I suspect that something is downloaded to somewhere else and that is the bit not being deleted. That, however, is only a guess at this stage.

Well, that is weird. All works dandy over here. Only thing I can think of at the moment is to reset the menu bar.

As far as I know, the Google maps thing is self contained and does not put anything anywhere else (except for the modification it does to the hosts file). Are you starting run.bat as administrator? (Right click, run as administrator). It should open a command prompt, and then a dialogue. Also, you didn't by any chance install it in your community folder, did you? It should be installed anywhere else but the community folder.

I deleted the ATC stutter fix from my community folder (well, unticked it in Addon manager) and this seems to have cured my ATC window freezing.
It completely hung on me before this and I couldn't remove it from the screen.
I have only used it once or twice since without problems, as the ATC is currently naff anyway, so it might be a false fix - I will have to see over the next few days.

How on earth would I do this.

Jim, I know it is self contained. I have it on drive G whilst MSFS is on drive E. I have had this all working properly until the update, and was impressed with the experience.

As I said before, when I activate it I get the command prompt which ends in "press any key to continue" hitting any key makes the command prompt go away (it should stay) and there is no follow up dialogue box.

If the Menu bar does not work, I might try a complete re-install which has been the normal practice since Update 3.  If I did not love this sim so much, I would have abandoned it long ago because of the amount of work and time it takes to get it right each time we are gifted with an update.  It always breaks something that I cannot fix.

Re: menu bar, once in cockpit, mouse to top middle of screen to drop down the menu bar (I'm pretty sure you already know that, but...) On the right end should be a "cog" icon, click that. Somewhere in there is an option to reset the menu bar.

Re: Google maps, have you tried running it with your anti-virus turned off? You may need to install it again with anti-virus turned off, and run it (as administrator) with anti-virus turned off. If that works, then add the folder that the program is in to the exclusions for your anti-virus.

I don't think I've seen a mess like this update stuff since the major fiasco that ORBX had back when they introduced Central , or maybe it was Central 2. At the time,  I think it came close to ruining them.

Jim,

My flight computer is down and will not start or boot up. it is currently in for repairs which, I suspect will be a motherboard or CPU problem.

When it comes back I will check that out and thanks for those tips.

JNS,

I do not think I am at that point yet mate. I have yet to have a trouble free update and I suspect that there are many others in the same boat. I think too, that there a quite a few people who have had bigger problems than I have who are still struggling.  My main point is that, I invariably manage (with help from the community) to sort it all out and I have to say that it is all worthwhile in the end.  This is really a very, very good simulator and well worth the perseverance.

I'm sure I will soon be getting MSFS, too.  Just waiting for the update cycle to hopefully slow down and also become more "user-friendly".

Hello all,

I have managed to sort out most of my problems but....

I still cannot mouse click on any item in the task bar (including ATC which I have mapped to keyboard "Spacebar") in VR. I do not have any trouble accessing the task bar because it is mapped to a throttle quadrant  in VR. When I bring up either the task bar or activate ATC, I hover the mouse over what I want to click and the panel activates but clicking on it achieves nothing. Everything works well though in the normal screen. This has got to be a fairly simple solution but I cannot find it.

Can anyone help me please?

Regards
