Anyone else get little dots on some panels when the sun is..

Featured Replies

I’m wondering if anyone gets what looks like little spots or dots on some panels when the sun is shining in a certain way, I’ve tried for the last week and a bit to figure out a cure and just can’t, it’s not all panels and planes but some…the cirrus is pretty bad for me and I’ve noticed the islander is as well..Raymarched reflections off helped quite a bit but it’s still very prominent.

Im loving this sim but some things are very hard to figure out, I also get what looks like the tress are all grainy (like pepper, the one that goes with salt lol) in the distance, and when I see others screenshots they look so clear, I guess could be a limitation of my gpu.

I’m running at native resolution of what my monitor is 19xxx1080. I can bring the render scaling all the way up and doesn’t really change anything.

This sim doesn't have ray tracing and without seeing your trees I can't be sure but I have found that if I let my graphics driver enable "image sharpening" they will look kind of grainy and shimmering above a certain distance. Turn off image sharpening if it's on and that will probably go away.

Thanks, ya it’s kind of like a shimmering look..about the raytracing, maybe I have my terminology wrong but isn’t there an option for “Ray-something” in the sim.

I had very grainy instrument bezels on my BN-2. Only happened when the sun  shone on them at a shallow angle. I increased my shadow quality and it improved. I assume you've tweaked that already so probably not much help.

I’ll take a look at it, I’ve played with quite a few settings that I can’t say for sure if I’ve tweaked the shadow quality, I will try it as well…everything at this point is helpful so thanks for mentioning it!

Cheers!

You're thinking of raymarched reflections

That’s it! My bad on the wording!

I noticed that some graphics artifacts change as you adjust your zoom level so you may try zooming in a little and then moving your eyepoint back a bit.

Yup I see this too... a speckled appearance, with low-angle sun illuminating an aircraft surface.  If you find a solution, please update us!

I think this might be an issue they have already acknowledged, that might be resolved by raytracing, when that is eventually implemented for those with capable GPUs (RTXxxxx series or AMD equivalent).

I’ve been troubleshooting yesterday and found that what helped was to have TAA enabled(which I’ve always had enabled) in sim, and FXAA enabled in nvidia control panel(which I didn’t have), when I went back in the sim the spots were mostly all gone and everything looked better, however by doing this I lost half my frames, went from 40+ Fps to between 15-19 so this isn’t an option for me to use it with those settings, maybe if you had a better gpu than mine it would be worth a try.

Try disabling film grain in the User.Opt, i've noticed those little dots too.
