MSFS is very exciting when i am bored of X-plane. X-plane is very exciting when i am bored of MSFS again, so I switch. When MSFS came out i would never have thought to do this initially but then the Felis 742 came out and the IXEG737 looks so incredibly real in VR it's uncanny. Or i do 1 flight first in MSFS to see what it (almost) looks like in the real world in a part of the world i've never been before and then do the same flight in X-plane for a more realistic flying experience. Too blue and green in clear sky day? Yes. FSX has also been too bright and clear to my taste. and X-plane is too grey for my taste. Cartoonish? perhaps the wrong word. I mean 'drawn' In X-plane i get a sense of being able to touch objects whereas in MSFS it's more like the objects are drawn, I am talking about cars, terminals, cars and other airport objects...... and mountains in the distance look farther away. It seems that you are mainly comparing MSFS to perfection, in which case of course it falls short. Disappointing autogen in Asia? Is it better in X-plane or FSX? I don't think so -- in most areas the autogen in older sims does not even come close to MSFS. Sky is too bright? Hard to believe if you are using real weather, and if not, you can easily adjust this to suit your taste. Drawn objects? Here you have me baffled. The depiction of the world in MSFS is, by a wide margin, the least "drawn" in appearance of any sim I have ever seen. Much of the time I am just blown away by the realism, which looks photographic to an astonishing degree. Anyway, I will say that while waiting for perfection-- which may never come -- I am having a blast! I am sorry you aren't; maybe the sim that you long for will appear in your lifetime. I hope so.

I hope so. comparing it to reality rather, although subjective, isn't that what we all (should) do to improve the experience? No, X-plane autogen is obviously inferior to MSFS autogen. i am only questioning the bold statement that MSFS has 'the whole world' to discover in true detail. that is not the case for many parts of the world. No, i am not saying the sky is too bright. i am saying the world is a bit too colorful, the greens are too green and the blues too blue. It's what FSX did too. Maybe it's a visibility issue which is, by default, a bit too 'clean' ? In X-plane, the graphics cannot compete with MSFS, obviously, but what i do notice is that, when on approach, the sensation of landing an aircraf is more realistic IMO. Maybe it is because the autogen, albeit less true to life, are real 3D objects, something that perhaps becomes noticeable the closer you get to them? Anyway, that is one of the reasons i still go back frequently to X-plane in response to your remark that you could not believe anyone would go back to other sims. MSFS is great and I enjoy it very much but there is still much, much to be done. It is also possible by the way that we are comparing apples with oranges because i am using a Rift CV1 (having to lower some gfx settings) and you may be flying in 4K on a 2D monitor for all i know. And in that case we are probably looking through completely different 'glasses'.
