January 14, 20224 yr Commercial Member ...after preparing the system and installing fresh as I recommended... and the problem persists - I would next go to the folder: "C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5" to make an edit to the default flight file. Before I start I might copy the default flight file "Prepar3D_Default.fxml" (although deleting this will cause P3D to rewrite it) and in that file I would search for "<Section Name="Sim.0">" and edit that value from: <Property Name="Sim" Value="Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II" /> to <Property Name="Sim" Value="" /> then when I start P3D from the desktop shortcut it will complain that the model is missing and will go into the scenario screen with a blank vehicle box. If that works OK I would contact Lockheed Martin about the problem. This would be an issue with the Windows installation. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

If you install into D:\ then you own that folder and automatically have modify rights to it so no need to run as admin, unless your addon accesses a network share that was set up for admins. Agreed your suggestion would ensure a clean run. And I agree that the second run loads the addons when the first run doesn’t. An important clue. I do run other programs via WideFS on another computer but no references for P3D to network paths. I just followed Pete Dowson’s advice for a short path. Ray (Cheshire, England). The only reason I spoke about how I install to the default P3D folder "C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5" for the list of folders for renaming was so that if you installed into "D:\P3Dv5" then I am suggesting to rename your folder to "D:\P3Dv5 Old" (example) before installing the fresh P3D. Also I mentioned to try renaming the default flight vehicle to empty, that would also be a quick check before reinstalling etc. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

I´am asking this, because i´ve had it myself, after i installed additional scenery or changed settings, or injected new shader setting with ENSHADE, that it took about 3 to 4 minutes where only the P3D startup wallpaper was on my screen and it seemed it stoped loading. But after 4 minutes the popup window came up where it tells you that the scenery index is rebuilding and from then on just 30 seconds later the scenario screen came up. January 14, 20224 yr Moderator @mobiel, when you install again it’s very important (as Steve says) that you choose a different location to the previous install. That ensures no files from the original will be picked up. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 15, 20224 yr if all fails this time more likely a window issue which most likely a clean install of windows if my link above does not work for you I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
January 15, 20224 yr Author Good morning, @Ray Proudfoot first my Windows Build: Version 21H2 ( Build 19044.1466) so I reinstalled P3D complete to a new folder: - the first run as always okay and fine. I loaded the default flight and close P3D again to start the second run - the second run the same issue again ! Then I tried to edit the default flight as @SteveW mentioned.: - same issue ! I deleted dll.xml - same issue ! I deleted exe.xml - same issue ! After that I uninstalled the Windows Updates which may crashes P3D, reboot the PC and delete generated files: - the first run okay - loading default flight okay - the second run again the same issue I cannot imagine that it is a windows problem because the first run is quite fine Edited January 15, 20224 yr by mobiel
January 15, 20224 yr Moderator @mobiel, I'm on the same Windows build version so we can probably discount that being the problem. As Steve said yesterday the second run reads add-on.cfg files. There are two. Please paste their contents using the Spoiler feature on the toolbar to hide the contents. One under Program Data - the other under your user profile. Ray (Cheshire, England).
