Virgin Australia PBR effects

Featured Replies

Next in my series of "How cool is PBR?" 😁, here you see another PBR metallic effect, this time on Virgin Australia's text.

These are 3 shots in the same position, but 3 different times of day.  Look how the appearance of the text changes (and the lady in the front) as the sun changes position.  Looks so cool in the sim.

While this livery is relatively "easy", with anything metal on the plane, you're painting on 1 albedo (normal) texture map, and a metallic map's 3 of 4 channels.  One thing you learn (unless you like duplicating work a lot), is to have the base texture to its final version before working on the PBR effects, or you're doing the work on 4 different places every time, LoL.

The finished effect is very cool though, and well worth the effort IMO.

I see these effects (and they look fantastic!) and then chuckle to myself as I think back to when I entered this hobby when flying a few green/white/blue/black pixels on the screen was all the rage...

We've come a long, long way in the last 30+ years!

🙂

Out sim just get's better and better .
