Hi,

Title says it all. I'm looking for a larger monitor/TV for MSFS. What features should I be looking for? 55" seems to be the most popular size, but I can go smaller. Still, I definitely want to go larger than my current 32" monitor.

BTW, I'll probably upgrade my video card in the near future.

A TV that has a direct game/PC mode that bypasses any internal image processing will reduce input lag significantly.

There's a fairly broad range of viewing angle characteristics across the available display panels--when you sit up close to a large-format monitor, you are looking at the screen edges at enough of an angle that some displays will wash the colors and contrast out too much.  How much is acceptable and improvements w/r/t price vs performance will vary with the user.

It's always a good idea to measure your intended viewing distance, and try to look at the TV from that distance in-store for pixellation, brightness, and contrast.  I found that 55" was the largest I could go with the 4K display at 1m viewing distance before the individual pixels became too visible.  Color saturation, brightness, and contrast are going to be subjective calls.

Any suggestions for one that is available right now? I haven't heard good things about the newer Samsungs from the home theater world, and I understand that OLED is susceptible to burn in, so I'm not sure which direction is the best..

I will be flying in a dark room and about 3ft. from the screen.

 

I use a Oled. LgCx48 has great performance 

I have a 43".  Right in front of me.  Same distance as a traditional monitor.  I love it for flying.  But I will say that every now and then it's too big for my daily work computer display.  I find I'm looking up and it can hurt my neck sometimes.  

I would say that a Judder reduction filter is the best reason for using a 4K TV over computer monitor.

I use a Samsung UN55NU6900.

Under the expert setting menu in the TV setting there is a setting called Auto Motion Plus Settings and under that menu

and setting called Judder reduction which can be set from 1 to 10.

I have it set to 10. It works with 50hz, 30hz, 29hz, 24hz and 23hz for me.

I use it to great effect with Racing games at 50hz and for MSFS at 29hz and 23hz.

I discovered it completely by accident well over a year ago while trying to get Smooth

gameplay improvements in P3Dv5. I was switching between different refresh rates and

I think one of those switched caused the TV's shudder reduction filter to turn and I couldn't believe

my eye's. Took me weeks to figure out why I was getting this perfectly smooth game play at 30hz

after switching the refresh in the order 60hz, 23hz then 30hz. I found the TV setting that was channing

automatically and Shudder reduction was it. I'd strongly encourage anyone who has access to this particular

common model samsung 4K TV to try it with MSFS. Set your refresh rate to 29hz with Vsync on and in the

TV's expert setting set Judder reduction to 10.

 

There is a caveat. You really have to fine tune your Panning so that it doesn't overwhelm the filter.

Just got a Samsung 55in QN90A QLED. Did not go with OLED as with flightsims and flying airliners you tend to have VC view in static mode for a while. Burn in will catch up to you. Had blooming issues at first with the QN90A but calibrated it and now it's good to go. And never have to worry about burn in. With this TV, was able to reduce from SSAA to x8 MSAA in P3D. Image shows practically no shimmering. Using a 3090 card.

Thanks all. I ended up going with a 48" C1. It is beautiful. I am worried about burn in, but everywhere I have posed this question, everyone points at the the C1 or CX.

Good choice. I have the CX. Originally, I was concerned about burn in but haven't had any issues dealing with it.  What I do is if I leave the sim running or the computer on is just to turn the TV off while I'm gone. I also have solid black wallpaper with no Icons. Just be careful using anything that is always in the same place like HUD's or text on the top of the screen.  The TV also has things to midgait the issue like dimming and pixel shift. Also Here is some information which I found worked great for me and made the TV even better.  Josh
