Just select tthe oiginal folder when the update screen comes (already installed location of MSFS local cache), then load. And it will check for the updates again and when it finds that your files are already installed, it will ask you for a smaller update amount or nothing to update.

Gosh, how many times we will get threads about an so called update which is not... Asobo should really, really fix their stupid installer routine in a way that it ALWAYS recognizes the install path, can't be that hard, no? Or, if it is to hard to fix, why not include a pop up window with a clear cut advice, e.g. "Please CHECK!!!! that the update window points to the CORRECT folder where your MSFS is installed, if not, adjust manually" or something like this.

I believe this has been a problem since the start.  We are dealing with 'programmers' that think on their level and there seems to be a disconnect.

Some things that seem obvious to us, do not seem to be obvious to them.  With the slight language barrier on top, this has created a fair bit of misunderstanding since the sim was launched.

The night lighting was the first one.  The lighting was absolutely beautiful and really stood out at the start, but people complained about the 'sepia masks' at longer range.  For some reason, the short range lighting was also changed, and since then it has never regained its charisma - it's close, but still more like FSX/P3D now.

Anyway, there is no excuse - the install and update process needs to be looked at.  I know there are a few here that beat their chest and say 'I am a man and it is no problem for me!', but I have never known anything like it in any other title.  You only have to look at the amount of threads of people being confused and losing their install etc.  With all the sophisticated copy protection and such, you would think it could detect its own install wouldn't you?     I have tiny freeware programs that can do it.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

It seems to work fine on Steam. I never have to worry about it. It's always seemed to me this is an issue with how Microsoft Store works, not the simulator. Does anyone with Steam have this problem?

I have to say, I originally pre-ordered on MS Store, as Steam wasn't announced, and I hated it from the start with how it wanted to install. It wasn't intuitive. The moment Steam was announced, I cancelled the MS Store version before they took my money, and, as usual, Steam was its regular user-friendly self for letting me define how it installs. Meanwhile, MS Store left useless folders on my main drive that, to this day, it refuses to let me delete, trying every admin access method I can think of or find on Google.

I never had a single issue while installing through the MS Store.

I don't know why I went with the marketplace.  Most of my stuff is with steam anyway and I don't have any problems.  I think at the time, I was thinking I might get the MSFS updates quicker through the MS Store, but this has proven false as they seem to update Steam at the same time.

They just need to adjust things a bit and I am sure it will be fine.  I get thrown out to the xbox app a lot now for updates, and then back into the sim for the main update.  It wasn't like this to start with, it used to just update itself on the way in.  I am sure they will get on top of it and rationalise it a bit in future.
