Send a text directly to Oliver at the address at the end of the manual and ask him your question or share your concerns. You can also explain your desire for a step-by-step video on using AAO with devices. Perhaps he will have a suggestion. I'm not sure that you will otherwise find success in your quest at this time.

You might take a look at Les's videos for Spadnext users. You may find this useful and perhaps you would feel more comfortable going this route. More expensive but a much better gui. Les O'Reilly - YouTube

I have.  But I'm beginning to think that what I want/need simply doesn't exist - even as simplistic as it might be to most everyone here.  Or, at least has not been articulated in anything I've read, or YT video I've watched.

With regard to some of the videos I've watched... Some have been a good starting point, and have been very informative - up to a point.  But just when I think the particular sub-topic being presented should go just a little deeper in explanation, the topic is changed and they move on.  Keep in mind, my critique is not just with Flight Simulator and add-ons.  It's pretty much with any technical/software subject matter being conveyed on YT.

Anyway, the journey continues.

I have Streamdeck and AAO.  I use FBW A320 profile. At first it was a bit confusing how to install it. I took me several attempts to make it work. I just read careful the instructions included with the profile. Everything works now. I was able even customize the profile. Streamdeck allows to copy/paste assigned buttons to any other profile in streamdeck. I also added custom cameras to streamdeck to be more efficient. As for writing scripts, it is way beyond my paygrade. I tried it but I always screwed it up.

I wish we had some kind of manual or good videos for people who don't have IT degree.

I can navigate around SD fairly efficiently, although I haven't attempted any complex calculations or multi-level type instructions for a button.  I am able to load pre-written SD profiles, and have created many screens of buttons for my work flow and the applets I use, and planes I like to fly.  Haven't gotten to the cameras yet, but they seem easy enough.

My issue now is, I cannot seem to get AAO to make active the Import Script option.  I had once before, but now it's disabled.  So I can't import the XML file associated the SD profile that appear in the unzipped folder.  The AAO plug-in shows up in my SD menu, so I don't think that's the issue.  For now, I'm just flying around without using the SD to any real advantage.

Did you check out the SpadNext videos suggested below?

I did start to watch one, but did not finish.  It wasn't because of the video presentation.  I think I have too many addons installled/loaded, and I don't know if there's possible conflict between them or not. (Another reason for a little 'guide' that would speak to the pros/cons, etc of addons and whether or not they're complementary to each other, etc.)  Maybe I don't know what I need to start and then build on based on my flying habits and how deep I want to go.  Right now, I'm using the SD in a very rudimentary way just to see what it can do.  I'm sure others do more complex things with it.  I've been playing with LittleNav Map (LNM) and that seems to be a very useful tool - even if just flying VFR from one place to another. It's introducing me to flight planning and what that's all about.  I've used some other tracking maps(based on Open Streets), but the implementation in LNM is really good, and it seems to 'pickup' a flight in FS and just start tracking it with little or no user interaction to start.

I'll probably explore SpadNext down the road.

Hi, I've had the SDecks for about a month now. Just like you, I delved into trying to understand the technology behind the SD as best I could. But there is a limit (for me): it has to be a tool to simplify my workflow. With regard to MSFS2020 (I also use the SD's for many other applications) I ran into a few practical problems: countless keyboard shortcuts, too small instruments with too small buttons and then operating the mouse (grr...). You often have to switch quickly and a lot between the instruments to be able to fly an airplane properly (you don't have a co-pilot who does that ;-)). Then I read about the StreamDeck, which could solve a lot of the (for me) difficult application especially after the major update (vs. 5.X). Then bought some.
I studied it further and what I have learned (at the moment) is: I limit myself to Flight Tracker and Lorby's AAO, otherwise it will be too much of the same in my opinion. That is why I do not delve into SpadNext. You can copy buttons from the various profiles to a profile that you find comfortable. Making hotkeys is not difficult. Basically work with Profiles instead of Folders. I almost only fly propeller planes, want to enjoy the view. Beautiful profiles have been made for the G1000 NXi that work very well down to the last detail. (AP, PFD, MFD, light, view, communication etc. etc. ) Practically no need for a mouse or keyboard anymore. Mainly the Hotas and the Stream Decks. For the technical deepening there is enough to get from the various fragments of tutorials. But it doesn't have to become 'Rocket Science' for me. The goal is still: the SD's have to make it easy for me to simflying ... and they do! Just my 2 cents ;-))

I'm not going to continue to ramble on about this topic.  I've voiced enough.  I will say, all I been looking for is a simplified guide, that would make understanding how the various add-ons work together seamlessly.  I was just frustrated that I could not get AAO (on some occasions) to load a script.  I'll accept the fact that it's just user error - that I haven't figured out yet.  🙂  Today it seems to be fine.  I was perplexed when I thought I wasn't trying to do anything very technical with the app and profiles - simply load and import pre-written ones.  @guenselihas done some remarkable work on many aircraft profiles for SD that do make the experience better and easier.

Today I'm trying my hand at going a little deeper into flight plans using LNM.  There's a lot there to consume.  The only 2 plugins I'm using with the SD at the moment are, Flight Tracker and AAO.  I've also found that the Mobile Companion web-app has been a big help as well with certain aspects - notably AP settings and control.

The menu option to import scripts is disabled while you are connected to the simulator. Click on the green LED to disconnect from the sim, then it should become active.

It turned out that importing scripts while the app tried to process them at the same time was not a good idea. That caused conflicts and slowed down the whole process (a lot). That is why I decided to play it safe and disable the script import while the app is busy.

Thank you very much.  I'm sure I would have come to that realization at some point.  After you replied, I went back to the AAO Documentation, specifically Chapter 5 on scripting.  I wanted to know for sure I hadn't missed it, or glossed over something important.  I couldn't find any reference to making sure the sim wasn't running before import/export of scripts.  Hopefully, this will help others who haven't gotten this far yet.  🙂

It should have been in there - I was certain that I've added a note. I will make sure that it is in the manual for version 2.25.

Hello,

Have just read this thread from start to finish, and can understand the concerns of redjr. He has brought-up plenty of issues we all face when attempting to understand Stream Deck and associated software. I have watched several YT videos, read a few posts and still can't get past square one. My stream deck...bought several months ago...now sits idle while I try to sus it all out.

I would love to be able to say that I have installed, and can operate, Lorbys AAO, but just the sight of a 97page guide to install and operate this program is too scary for me at my age of 76.

Thanks to all posters here, and I'll certainly follow your advice and links,

Cheers
