February 1, 20224 yr Canada's proposal to store nuclear waste for thousands of years. https://thenarwhal.ca/nuclear-waste-ignace-bruce/?utm_source=pocket-newtab Instead of naysaying what Canada is doing and the WIPP site in New Mexico the naysayers had better come up with better solutions or accept what is being done now to store the waste. It's already here. It's not going away. And with new nuclear plants there will be more waste to store. Unless you have a better plan to submit don't keep saying tis won't work and that won't work. Tell us what will work. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

In the future, providing space launches can be made more economical, we could shoot it into space, possibly so it will enter the orbit of another planet and burn up in the atmosphere on entry. Another possibility is to send it all to a chicken farm so we end up with giant, self-microwaving mutant chickens which cook themselves, thus solving world hunger as well as saving energy on not even having to use an oven to cook the things. February 2, 20224 yr Author Maybe, Chock, and I've mentioned this before, perhaps all these UFOs people have been spotting sre threr to prevent us from ever leaving tis solar system...especially with nuclear waste. If it will burn up on re-entry then why don't we just do that on our own planet? Interesting about them chickens. Is that why we say 'nuke it' when we cook up things in our microwave ovens? Burning doesn't destroy elements; it may change compounds into other compounds but Plutonium will still be Plutonium and will still be just as radioactive and it will be dispersed in the upper atmosphere and eventually come down to the ground. Plutonium is almost twice as heavy as Lead. How about if we send it to the Sun rather than polluting other planets or moons? There would always be a risk that the rocket carrying it into space could blow up and then the whole area where the fallout lands would be uninhabitable for centuries. February 2, 20224 yr Author Rob, you talk about 8 or 9 thousand dollars as if it's loose change hanging around the house. I, for one, don;t have that kind of money to call up the solar guys and say, "How about coming over and solarizing my house tomorrow." You can afford it. Good for you. But there are millions of us who can't and have to rely on public service to bring us power. Cheers, Noel. The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. February 2, 20224 yr I was going to post a tub of popcorn, expecting this to be very entertaining before, like a few days ago, it gets locked. But have decoded to be optimistic that it wont transpire. Edited February 2, 20224 yr by martin-w

I'm not a fan of that theory. If there are any aliens out there capable of getting here across such an enormous void, then their technology will be hundreds if not thousands of years in advance of ours. (Maybe more) Something tells me that the human race is a very, very long way away from being able to traverse interstellar space and pose a threat to any habitable planets out there. And this is assuming that there are technological civilisations out there in abundance for us to threaten. I'm afraid we don't know that to be the case, and it seems it might be more likely that advanced civilisations are rare. From what we know, evolution doesn't seem to find complex life forms easy, comparatively speaking, in that it took billions of years for complex life to evolve on Earth, as opposed to simple life that appeared pretty much as soon as it could. Then we have to add the likelihood that as soon as a species develops technology they are likely to ultimately destroy themselves or damage their environment to such an extent that their species is threatened. I wonder what would happen if the trillions of dollars that's given to the fossil fuel industry every year was given to renewable energy instead? Ignore the half a trillion below, its more like 5.9 trillion if you include environmental damage. Quote Fossil-fuel subsidies are one of the biggest financial barriers hampering the world’s shift to renewable energy sources. Each year, governments around the world pour around half a trillion dollars into artificially lowering the price of fossil fuels — more than triple what renewables receive. This is despite repeated pledges by politicians to end this kind of support, including statements from the G7 and G20 groups of nations. “I think everyone seems to be basically on the same page that something needs to be done about fossil-fuel subsidies,” says Harro van Asselt, a specialist in climate law and policy at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu. “It’s the discrepancy between the rhetoric and the reality that is starting to bite a little bit. We’re figuring out that it’s incredibly challenging to actually make it happen.” https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02847-2
February 2, 20224 yr Fire at the sun it will burn up and just add fuel to the fire that will some day run out and the earth will be finished. Elon Musk is the guy for that. Raymond Fry.

For all we know there may be a lot of advanced civilizations out there exploring. And if there what would be their motives? Just look at our age of exploration on earth. They didn't go to small out of the way islands. They went to the places where they could make a profit. So in our galaxy alone most of the inhabitable planets would probably be closer to center of the galaxy than out on the fringes. That's where they would be looking for profits. Not an outlier planet far away from the more crowded center like Earth. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
