YET another bug found that sucks FSX SP1

Featured Replies

choose microsoft default 747 and take off... at 180 speed i pull up and get the plane off the tarmac and while climbing the speed climbs and the plane goes faster. while going faster i pull up a little more and it says stall at 230kts while plane at 15 degrees climbing and the plane falls out of the sky right after take off. this default microsoft plane did not do this before Sp1....i installed FSX from scratch and the sp1 with no addons and anything else after the old stuff was all cleaned from system.its funny a 747 stalls at 230kts with a 15 degree climbout while gaining speed.. and falls out of the sky in a way like a light weight object falls....ughits funny they gave us the performance gains because they are there and in return screwed up like I thought they would the stuff that DID not have bugs before SP1 like planes, lights, and views for planes... geesh...

I believe the 15 degrees is referring to the nose position-not angle of attack. I would think is possible at 230 knts and 15 degrees nose postion that pulling back on the stick as he stated caused him to exceed the critical angle of attack.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Also, 180 knots for Vr? That's really fast - did you have flaps out? Normal Vr on a 744 is somewhere between 130-160 depending on weight.

"Skyhawk," you need to change your name to "groundsparrow," 'cause it's clear as a bell you don't know much about flying, aircraft or FSX...

who cares! Most people never use the default aircraft!

Are you sure it didn't happen pre-SP1? 15 degrees max of AoA is too low for a plane to stall. However, depending on the speed and thrust to weight ratio at the moment, the max AoA might be a different.

>"Skyhawk," you need to change your name to "groundsparrow,">'cause it's clear as a bell you don't know much about flying,>aircraft or FSX...>Why not offer him your insight and wisdom into what he might be doing wrong, rather than mocking him? That will earn you more appreciation compared to cobbling together antonyms for his name. ;)

Well I'll try again. I have never flown a jet in real life-just props so excuse me if I have something wrong here-but the artificial horizon provides roll and pitch information-it does not provide angle of attack information-which is what is the culprit of a stall. (If the 747 AH shows angle of attack I apologize but I just tried the sim version and it appears to show pitch value). If you pitch your nose up 15 degrees based on the AH you could still be approaching a stall if the chord of the airfoil vs. the relative wind is exceeding the critical angle of attack which is usually about 17 degrees. In his example above he said he pitched to 15 degrees (I assume based on the AH-nose position)-then started pulling the nose up. It is very possible depending on conditions that the critical angle of attack was reached and a stall ensued.Nose position and airspeed doesn't guarantee anything-just ask the WWII torpedo bombers about that that went in after dropping their bombs in a nose low attitude with plenty of airspeed and then pulled their noses abruptly up. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg
