My WOWWWWs in MFS ...

Featured Replies

I just sent Zulfi / Humpty ( a great friend here and virtual Piloteeee from India ! ) this message that I wanted to share with you MFS users / lovers / haters 🙂

It's about a 45 min experience I had yesterday flying the Discus 2c from a portuguese airfield... This, and any FBW A320 session, really make my days when I play MFS, and are actually the strongest points about this simulator - the accuracy/ detail of scenery, down to details I was never able to have in a flightsim !

Zulfi, IRL I almost haven't had the opportunity to go flying - I have too many stuff to do that fills all of the slots in the weekend, but a couple weekends ago I went flying just to maintain proficiency.

Then a few colleagues of mine, healthy ( $$$ ) guys who own  their own gliders and even some of them prop aircraft, were arranging for a soaring encounter in Easter - typical, although last time I attended the Easter soaring camps was as far back as 1987 😕

They were talking about using an aerodrome in Seia ( LPSE ), Portugal, just north of our biggest mountainous area - Serra da Estrela - but some were pointing out that going for a camp in an area where there are no other airfields or even places to land outside would be dangerous, even more because most are not familiar with the place.

I loaded MFS - I am testing SU8 beta, and really enjoying it's performance! - and went there. The aerodrome and the area is perfectlly / accurately reproduced in MFS, and we are going to receive a Portugal and Spain update next month !!!! WOw Zulfi WOW !!! It was so so good!!! I took a good freeware glider ( Discus-2c ) which has been released for MFS and performs rather acceptably and flew for 45 min using orographic lift. Very realistic given the rw weather conditions yesterday, and crossed the "Sierra" to the southern side, ending up landing in what is left from the "Meca" of mountain soaring in Portugal - Covilhã, an aerodrome I used quite often in the 80s and 90s of last Century, and was closed to build a datacenter for the biggest portuguese telecommunications company 😕 Part of the runway is still there, and the buildings in the middle, and MFS perfectly represents it !

WOW !   These are my WOWWWWWWWW moments in MFS when not doing a short airline hop in FBW A320 NEO :-)"

Flightsimming since 1992

Great story mate , my wow moment was in August of 2020 when I first installed MSFS ; and that feeling continues each and every time I have used it since then .

My wow moment was when i took off in Italy and it actually looked like Italy.

If it helps: performance with SU8 beta is a bit worse for me than with SU7 🙂

Mine ( performance ) went up. It wasn't a problem, but I find it even smoother now and totally stutter-free.

As usual, regarding performance, different experiences for different people in different circumstances - to be expected.  I find it just the same, or not different enough to notice.

Asobo have not said they have made any significant changes to enhance performance, so I wouldn't expect any, and if they are there, they will be slight and just coincidental.

Likewise, for people saying it appears slightly worse, it may just be due to the slightly thicker and better looking clouds now.  You can't get something for nothing...  Until DLSS comes along.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.
