FS-ATC Chatter adds real immersion

Featured Replies

it would just be a matter of Alt+Tab to switch to LATC and select a different frequency

How is that immersive?

If you want to change between e.g. Tower and Departure controllers and remain in the sim, FS-ATC chatter allows you to do so with a simple flick of your aircraft's pre-tuned frequency switch on the radios.

This program exists to increase the level of realism and immersion. Alt-Tab between flight sim and a browser to select a new LiveATC link to tune into, for a lot of us, is not immersive.

Well, you started off posting on this thread that you couldn't understand why anyone would use FS ATC chatter. Now you see that some of us  just have different requirements than you do.

Obviously. But i am totally fine with that.

Yes i get your point. But i have no issue with tabbing out of the sim from time to time. I am doing it for Simbrief, Volanta and other apps too and i am sure many others are doing it for whatever app or reason.

As i did say i am not an immersion seeker and for me its totally ok to use the sim even without ANY kind of ATC.

No need to offend me because i did tell my opinion right?

I did not mean to offend you, but you actually offended us when you try to imply that you could get the same results or better with LiveAT.net. Basically we are a bunch of dummies for buying an ATC add-on that one can get similar results for free.

The tittle of this thread is:

FS-ATC Chatter adds real immersion

We clearly explained why and you chose to participate by saying that you don't get it. Get it?

BTW: LiveATC.net is not really free and they sell an ap at the android store. I'm going to assume that the same limitation found using the browser, are probably the same when using the ap.

I speak for those who tried to explain your "I don't get it" statement. You don't need to be sorry, just follow the same advise that you just gave me.

The only luck I'm going to need is trying to explain things to some members of here AVSIM. 😀

Respectfully and all in fun.

OK, you use Live ATC.  You have to tune the Live ATC channel to clearance delivery, prior to ground. Then once you are talking to ground, you have to go back to the LATC menu to find a ground frequency where you are  and select that.  Once you get to the runway, you have to go to Live ATC and tune the Tower Frequency.  After taking off, you have to find a departure frequency and tune to that. Next comes Center ( you have to figure out which Center you would be using, then Approach, then Tower, Then Ground.  o do all this in a realistic manner, you probably would need someone just to run the radios for you.

ATC Chatter does all this automatically with at most, the click of a button.

Here is just a sample page from Atlanta Airport and the available channels. https://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=KATL

I can see why ATC Chatter is a useful app, but tuning radios is part of flying and not a negative as far as liveATC.NET is concerned.  Most airports on LiveATC have combined ground/tower frequencies, so little retuning needed on the ground.  I use ForeFlight which displays center frequencies and they are quick to search for.

I did a flight from Van Nuys to Fresno yesterday.  I have Live ATC on a second screen so easy to use so no switching out of MSFS.  With LiveATC tuned to ground/tower, and PSXT/Real Traffic running, I could see and hear the actual traffic displayed in MSFS.  Quite fun slotting yourself into the traffic, holding short while watching an arrival.  After take off the the relevant center frequency is displayed in Foreflight - live traffic out the window and on the radio for the cruise.

Listening to Fresno approach I heard a couple of aircraft fly the 29R ILS so that is what I entered to the G1000NXi.  An aircraft contacted approach and I could see that traffic on the G1000 traffic display and out the window.  Slotted myself a few miles behind it and heard all the comms - it actually asked for a sidestep to 29L on finals which was granted and seen!  I heard the tower clear a 737 on taxiway Bravo to hold short of 29R - I saw it and landed just before it entered the runway.

I've had a play with ATC Chatter and would certainly recommend it, but if you have PSXT and RealTraffic, you just can't beat real traffic out the window with live comms!

I have LiveATC on another screen, so no Alt-Tab required.

Looks good, but $90 a year, is a bit steep for me. FS ATC Chatter is $15 forever.

[sigh]

Is that the same as pilots do to change frequencies on their radios in their aircraft?

If you don't want to try and replicate as much realistic behaviour as possible, fine. Just don't come onto a thread called '[product] adds real immersion' and say how it's not relevant to you because you don't go for immersion.

No, and they also don't use TrackIR, VR Headsets or a lot of other stuff we use in a flightsim.

You missed this bit then - 'I've had a play with ATC Chatter and would certainly recommend it'.  Where did I say I don't go for immersion, perhaps you could quote me?

This I really don't understand because I described using apps to see see live traffic out the window and use LiveATC to hear that traffic.  for this realism, the cost is using a second screen to tune into real live traffic to match what I see in MSFS.

Yep, always a choice to be made.  I would be happy using either solution, but the cost for RealTraffic is a compromise worth it to me for the added realism.

I just can't work out why here in the UK, given the plethora of visual apps like FlightRadar24, it's still not legal to broadcast live ATC..?
