A new plane (T-50 Bobcat) and a new place (KBZN)...

Featured Replies

I have been meaning to support my Orbx (CRM) region with a couple of new custom (Orbx) Airport sceneries. To that objective, a week or so ago, I'd acquired the Orbx add-on for (KBZN) Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, located in Montana, 8 miles northwest of the town of Bozeman; so, I installed it to partake in a virtual visit of this airport.

And, looking for a small new aircraft... (been lately flying too many of those (heavy) jetliners...) ...I also got, this week, the Milviz T-50 Bobcat... (had it on my radar for some time) ...the Cessna Bobcat was made largely of wood, spawning its nickname, the "Bamboo Bomber"... (metal, especially aluminum been in scarce supply...around the time of its production) ...

KBZN, Bozeman Airport, has 3 (main) Asphalt runways (see below for one (aerial) shot of two crisscrossing main runways). The longest Runway (12/30) can easily accommodate B737s and A320s. Here, however, for this post, I've lifted off with my (piston-powered) Bobcat Twin, from Rwy 30 and returned for landing on Rwy 12 (and for a bit of variety, please note my choice of different liveries/colors - "Red" on lift-off and "Yellow" on touchdown) ...

Bozeman is surrounded on all sides by mountains, many of which are home to some of the state's tallest and most scenic mountain landscapes. The Bridger Range, seen, in golden twilight, in my last two shots, is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains, located just northeast of Bozeman, running mostly in a north–south direction.

I've also included a few close-up shots from a walkabout tour, in and around this airport...!

Hope you enjoy this collection of this classic plane and this scenic place...!!

Nice. I always think of the "Sky King" TV show in the 50's when I see a Bobcat.

John

Bozeman is a spectacular area and Orbx really did a great job with there product . I traveled thru Bozeman on business at least six times a year for over 30 year's , so I know it well . Your shot's with your Bobcat represent the area well .

Thanks for the comments, johnb, especially from someone who knows the area so well...I don't know, in the SIM, the Jackson Hole Airport and area (one of my previous posts) seemed much more mountainous than this one...but, of course, the SIM, here, is a feeble imitation of the real thing.... And only a RW traveler...like you....🙂...can tell the real difference...but, no doubt, this Bozeman area is spectacular...

Thank you, Ryan. I had the same Beech 18 impression when I'd first spotted this plane in Milviz website a while ago...There is indeed a reference to Beech Model 18 in the Wiki for it:

"...The Cessna Airplane Company first produced the wood and tubular steel, fabric-covered T-50 in 1939 for the civilian market, as a lightweight and lower cost twin for personal use where larger aircraft such as the Beechcraft Model 18 would be too expensive...."
