CONSTANT INSTALLING OF UPDATE

Featured Replies

Good day all,

I am very new to MSFS and find myself struggling with a number of issues. The most annoying one at the moment is that every time I launch the game through Steam I have to wait sometimes up to 5 minutes while it (re)installs the latest 117 GB update.

May I ask if this is normal? If not, please can I have advice as to how to correct the fault?

Thank you.

I think if you post a picture of what it looks like, it can help people here in Avsim solve your problem.

If you have installed & use Advanced SystemCare, uninstall it.

That fixed the 'Update repetition cycle for me.

I'm happy to say large updates on bootup is not normal. There is 0 to download when you start MSFS except twice a month or so for official updates when it may be 10 GB.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I thought that you knew that you had to reinstall MSFS ever time you played it.

It probably does not reinstall 117 GB in 5 minutes, but there may be something that went wrong with the initial install.

  • Do you have more than one hard disk?
  • Where is your MSFS install?
  • What is the exact message you are getting when you start MSFS?
  • Where is this "117GB install" done, which path?
  • Can you look at your MSFS folder and find the UserCfg.opt file, open it and scroll to the bottom to see the path where your packages are installed?
  • Is that path the one indicated on your start download MSFS screen?
  • If different, then make sure to rectify this install path in your download screen and everything should fall in line.

The typical net increase is more like 3-4 GB, since most update files replace old ones.
