Electric Cars...

Featured Replies

Now this is worth considering. Hyudai Kona. Actually gets more than the official range, not less. Super cheap to run. Good range.

The advertisment for this car says it has a larger than normal battery, so that a driver can recharge once at around 250 miles? Sounds impressive given that just

a few years ago EV drivers were expressing concerns about lack of chargers en-route.

Scores good on overall reliability as well (around 95%) even though it was below the 'average' according to one consumer survey

That one sounds good to me.  I average 75 miles a month.  That means I would have to charge it about once a quarter.  The luggage space looks large enough for my groceries.  The price is right.  Right enough that I might be able to trade my Prius straight across.  I'm going to call my local Hyundai (pronounced Hundai) dealer and see when one might be available.

I looked up Hyundai Kona Electric online.  This is what I got:

Currently, KONA Electric is only sold in CA, CO, CT, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT & WA.

Looks like I'll have to wait until they start selling them in New Mexico.

Added Kona availability

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Nothing in Alberquerque,? i saw something online like Southwest Hyundai, alb...NM.

Dont know if its legit or not mind

The max mileage was 300 miles, but he got 384 miles, much higher than the WLPT range.  6:14  in video.  He even got 200 miles on a freezing cold day with the heater on max.

As I mentioned, he got 384 miles on a day that was 12C. What's your average summer temp? think you'd deo well for charge.

Average about 95F.  Range between 90F and 100F.  Sometimes we'll go a week to 10 days over 100F.  Have to use air conditioning on every trip.

What size battery pack on that kona?

Is it on the same platform as the ionic 5 and the kia ev6?

It's in the video, the time stamp I posted.

Here is a great source on YouTube (especially for any Red Dwarf fans):

Yeah he's been doing the fully charged videos for quite a few years now. Great videos for cars and renewable energy. Not surprising the videos are well produced, his presenters and film crew are proffesionals and Robert is no stranger to TV of course.

I still chuckle at the "double poloroid". Rob of course is only half a Polaroid. 😊

Well, there seems to be many chargers, but they are not all useful for all EV vehicles! I was astonished at what this fellow explains.  😧

Forget an electric car Noel.

I spent art of the afternoon looking for an electric car.  The Chevy Volt, the Nissan Leaf, and the Hyndai Kona.

I was told by each dealer that they only have 20 to 30 percent of their new car inventory.  New cars just aren't available.  And the premium cars and electrics are not coming in.  If I wanted a new electric vehicle I would probably have to go to Dallas (500 miles away) to try and find one and they might not have any either.

Electric cars are note xpected to arrive at Roswell dealers for another two to three years.

So I kissed by low mieage Prius on the hood and came back home.

I did learn something I didn't know about my Prius.  I asked the ford dealer what I could expect on a trade in.  He took down the VIN Number and said, "About 28,000 dollars."  And he told me it had all the options including 4 wheel drive.  I didn't know it even came with four wheel drive.  I guess that gives me more traction eh?

I'm not that disappointed it.  I'm pretty satisfied with what I have.

My guess is that chargers for EVs are gradually improving

.I find more British shows on EVs/Solar than American, yet more American's own EVs and have Solar homes than any other country.  England is positively way behind the times in their electrical infrastructure for EVs ... what on earth is the UK government doing with all that tax money? 😉

My guess is chargers for EVs are slowly improving. It seemed to me some of the problems on the video are comms related rather than structural.

Funnily enough Zappi seems to score well, which i think is a UK company (sorry if i got that name wrong), you may well be right generally about uk infrastructure. I dont even drive a regular car at the moment:)

As regards tax money ..... i'll just eat my supper 😁

That dealer was in error.  He misinterpretd FWD as four wheel drive when in actuality after looking on the internet I discovered it is front wheel drive.

Cheers, Rob.

I think UK are doing okay Mr Rob, per capita we have 102 chargers per 100,000. US has only 37 per 100,000. And the National Grid tell us they don't have any concerns about accommodating lots more EV's.
