Captain Sim need to answer for their policies

Featured Replies

I've bought two Captain Sim products, and am very pleased with the purchases. I knew ahead of time, that I wanted these two aircraft for exterior graphics, and not much else.Captain Sim excells with talent in the graphics department, and that's exactly what I wanted; and they delivered for a very reasonable price.L.Adamson

>Bilko's post is for precedent. Thank you.>>>Here is a page at the Captain Sim forums where people with>high end systems complain. It also includes an obnoxious>response, IMO, from Captain Sim. >>http://www.captainsim.net/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1141312083/60While I agree there is a serious performance issue in regards to the CS757 in FSX, I disagree it's AVSIM's place to take a active stance, other than it's review of the product, which I agree, should have been less than stellar for the CS757, as well as included some inaccuracies. The case mentioned above though is a little different. In that case you had an individual trying to impose rights on the entire community that he didn't have. Even to the point that American Airlines themselves, had to clarify their position. CS's case is a dispute on a product, other than the review process, which incidently did say there was performance issues, that is an issue between them and their customers, including myself! What scares me more, is that the CS757 performed similarly to the PMDG 757/744 and the LDS 767 in FS9. So if the CS757 performs this badly in FSX, is a PMDG or LDS type aircraft going to do the same? Are they going to have to remove some of the details they have been noted for to be able to get an acceptable performance level? I guess we'll know when the MD-11 is released!! If even after SP1 these types of aircraft doesn't perform well in FSX, that doesn't bode to well for the aircraft addon market as it pertains to FSX!

Thanks

No, the problem with the cs757 in fsx is bad programming. I think PMDG and definitely Airlinerxp given their realityxp coders will be able to deliver much more at far better performance. Tom, I would also like to add that you should consider (as a greater measure than a review) taking down the "Summer Sale at Captain Sim" banner on the avsim front page. Conscientiously, I won't ask you to go after a company in the way you already refused, but you might choose not to facilitate their advertisement, given their notorious customer support record preserved here.

The 757 in FSX though is a different story. That said, anyone who bought it for FS9 and got the free upgrade for FSX, really doesn't have anything to complain about, other than the delay in the release of the promised, Block D & F modules. We bought it for FS9, so the upgrade whether it works well or not is just icing on the cake. The problem is CS is also selling it as a stand alone FSX model, those customers do have a legitimate gripe, but as I mentioned above, that's between them and CS, not Avsim! Also there are plenty of warnings both here and their own forums about their performance issues in FSX, so no one can claim they didn't know up front about the problems!

Thanks

>The case mentioned above though is a little different. In that>case you had an individual trying to impose rights on the>entire community that he didn't have.It was AVSIM 'taking a stand,'that I was pointing out, regardless of what the issue was. So, where is the line drawn? Captain Sim's policies and past behavior are not too far behind that of Ariane. It's 'selective prosecution' because Ariane chose to make a personal attack.

You obviously do not know the history of Ariane,or you would not charaterize this as "selective prosecution because Ariane chose to make a personal attack". That conclusion in itself tells me all I need to know about where you are coming from.

You hit the nail again on the head. There are reams of information in this forum, the FS9 forum and numerous others that could educate the reader to CS. Caveat Emptor indeed. There certainly is enough information available to make educated decisions as to just about every commercial vendor in the hobby. All a user has to do, dare I say it again, is to take some personal responsibility before they make a purchase decision.

Very true. But at the same time you could take some personal responsibility not to have the products of a company who treats its customers like suckers advertised on the avsim site.I realize that is inflammatory, but please do take seriously what I said about a revisited review. All things considered, I understand now avsim's position and how the ariane issue was in fact wider; but I think the review of the fsx 757 added on top of the fs9 version is a fair and safe compromise.

All things considered, I>understand now avsim's position and how the ariane issue was>in fact wider; but I think the review of the fsx 757 added on>top of the fs9 version is a fair and safe compromise. Come now. Even with SP1 FSX has very high processor overhead. ANY higher end addon will experience fps hits like never before. To blame CS for how FSX has been programmed is just stupid.

Okay, check their forums or buy the add on. I know I won't. That's what CS did, blamed fsx. We're talking 5-7 fps. It's not fsx, and with the service pack and great companies like airlinerxp and pmdg we will see that.

I was so gobsmacked at the rude reponses from the CS support team when I challenged their frame rates for their 757.I have a high-end PC - E6600 overclocked to 3.1 gig, 2 gig RAM, X1900XT - and was getting (pre-SP1) - about 7fps on the tarmac in the 757.My argument with CS was that presumably they test these products - yes ? - well I'd hope so - but if you had a product that you couldn't get more than about 8fps from - then surely you'd not release it ?Even if you did - then try and assist with tweaks to make things better - but no - CS stance is always that its FSX at fault.Previous poster stated to check out CS's forums first before purchasing - well buyer beware as you'll note the frame rate issues for the 757 product have been moved from 757 Tech Support to "General" - wouldn't be the first place you'd look - and why move them there when they are most definately specific to that product ?Its like releasing a map pack for Ghost Recon 2 - with all the maps unplayable -as they are at 5 fps or lower -but it wouldn't be the maps fault would it ? Developer could come back and say -but look the maps are 10 miles across and have 9 million polygons - great - but if its not playable - its not playable - full stop. Would they blame the core GRAW2 software ?In summary - the 757 was such an appauling product with the worst customer service I've ever seen (either on the internet or in the real-world) - that I deleted it off my hard-disk, and if I'd had more time on my hands - I would have attempted a charge-back through my credit-card.Mark.

It's like I tell my kids - you lose your right to complain about the government if you don't vote. It's the same with add-ons - you have no right to complain if you don't own it. Doug

This has been the concern of many of us all along, i.e., there just isn't enough headroom in FSX to support the type of complexity to which we've become accustomed. Time will tell...but is ain't looking good SP1 or no SP1.Doug

lol...captainsim bashes Microsoft for their FSX product....haha"FSX itself has 'performance issues' so please do not blame the 757 if your system is unable to run FSX decently."What kind of company releases a product that performs like horse ****?hahahahah, a company you don't buy anything from....We need MS to take them on...j/k!

W2DR,Actually I was complaining about their customer support policies; the add on is secondary but involves customers who have been ridiculously treated. And what you tell your kids is debatable if you expand on Thoreau's Civil Disobedience thinking. He refused to pay taxes because of a war and the U.S. reliance on slavery. One might refuse to vote based on criticisms of the candidates and the party system, for instance; inherently a complaint about government. That's not my view, though, not to vote. It is also a false choice, because voting is not the be all and end all of involving yourself in government.
