The sun is bright and so is the future for solar.

This is about the near future boys and girls. Not about viability of solar now. So we can all br friends, not argue and be lovey dovey. ❤️

Perovskite is cool.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

I think it will be all love and kisses. I can feel it in the air. I will personally take on the role of pseudo-moderator and take away many cat points for misbehaviour. In fact you can take a holiday if you like and leave it in my safe hands.

No way will the mischievous among us risk losing cat points. For when felinekind finally take over, they will need those cat points to qualify for "special status".

Well...

On second thought: cool!

Ok, color me "interested".  Conventional solar panels are bulky, heavy, and inefficient.  This new film holds promise for a thin, lightweight, more efficient system.  I'm not anti-solar, I think it has its place in the makeup of energy production.  An affordable, efficient, durable, long lasting, solar cell roofing material could provide a good amount of electrical energy.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

😲 How dare you. I was a moderator elsewhere for many years. It would require a PM to reveal what I had to deal with, you'd be shocked and I'm not joking.

Well, Martin.....I see one by your buddy that was an "almost' and one that you can't see that got removed from sight.  I'm not joking either!

The factors you mention are subjective,  you mean more affordable, efficient, durable, long lasting. Boosting the efficiency further is a whole new ball game. Due to the Shockley- Queisser limit current cells have a max efficiency of 33.7%. Perovskites can be layered and make use of multiple wavelengths. We are talking about, eventually,  at least double the current efficiency Interestingly, the theoretical max from multi junction perovskite cells is 80% plus. Cost and other factors work against you in terms of such extreme multi-layering, but just think of what future innovations might enable.

😲  In this thread? Which Buddy? Didn't know I had any.   What "almost"? I see nothing.

Reveal their names immediately, I insist. In the name of all that is feline and glorious. Their cat points will be deleted ASAP!

What is there optimal environment conditions?

Still early in development Rob. They're experimenting with various recipes as we speak. There's lots of engineering and science still to be done before they can guarantee the longevity that conventional cells have. 13:19 in video.

40% efficiency is doable but they say greater than that wont be possible for a long time yet.

Worth watching the video when you have time. Very interesting.

I've never met Martin so it's unlikely we're buddies just because we agree on something well proven and fundamental ... but I do know moderators can review member PMs. 😉

Cheers, Rob.

Not buddies! 😢

I think we can all agree that more money should be spent on solar power and battery research and development.

I'll give you a hug, but unless I fully understand the type of Pub you go to, the type of Beer you drink, I just can't commit 🙂

Don't like pubs. Don't drink... well, except for when I steal the gin my daughters  been gifted by people at wok and put it in my coffee. Then play chess with my gin coffee and sometimes, if I'm naughty, a bar of chocolate.

Am I weird? Don't answer that question.
