Questions on three settings within P3D v5.x...

Featured Replies

I'm asking about three settings, and although I have tried them...I would like to fully understand their intent, if activated:

Dynamic Texture Streaming

Variable Rate Refresh

Motion Blur.

I tried looking them up, but there is no true  'why' and 'where for' for use of any or all three individual settings.   So,   can anybody give me a general overview of each setting, and why one would want to, or not want to use them to give better texture clarity and update, as well as smoother FPS (animation).

Thanks, will be looking forward to any replies on thread... 🙂

I think I tried Dynamic Texture Streaming at some point. It helped reduce VRAM usage but texture/ scenery loading everywhere was unbearably slow. You'd fly into an airport and the runway textures wouldn't have loaded properly until you'd touched down. Not very ideal. May vary from system to system but for me it was nigh-on unusable.

I personally have preferred to reduce my overall settings slightly to fit within my VRAM constraints.

Considering issues which are still 'implemented' in P3D5, introducing something like 'motion blur' is pure waste of time, time that P3D team could spend on fixing volumetric clouds or disappearing shadows - to name two out of longer list

Regarding Variable Refresh Rate, I am using that P3D option checked in conjunction with my G-sync monitor. My understanding is this allows for refresh rates to better synced and enables FPS to be dynamically adjusted based on the work the GPU is able to do. With this set up, I have significantly reduced the amount of stutters previously seen with using fixed FPS rates.

Nvidia have released now drivers 512.15. If you have any issues with any of the fixes that have been included you may be interested.

Fixed

  • [Advanced Optimus]: Brightness levels do not change properly when display set to NVIDIA GPU only mode with HDR set to off. [3497181]
  • Increased registry reads by DWM.exe when GPU is connected to G-SYNC/G-SYNC Compatible display [3535493]
  • [NVIDIA Advanced Optimus][Ampere] Putting notebook to sleep by closing the lid and then waking up the notebook may cause Windows to reboot when in dGPU mode. [3444252]
  • The native resolution for a DVI or HDMI display may not be available from the display settings if the display contains an invalid EDID. [3502752]
  • [Adobe Substance Sampler/Stager]: Fixed Optimus profile to run on dGPU by default. [3557257]
  • [Enscape]: Shadow rendering is incorrect. [3530584]
  • [Solidworks Visualize Boost]: When the application process is running in the background, the GPU memory clock may operate at lower clock speeds. [3417407]
  • [Adobe Premiere Pro]: Adobe Media Encoder could crash due to out of memory error when encoding multiple R3D 8k files. [3532477]
  • [Foundry Nuke]: CUDA and OpenCL kernel return incorrect result. [3497442]

Windows 10/11 Issues

  • Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed may crash on courses where players drive through water. [3338967]
  • [NVIDIA Ampere GPU]: With the GPU connected to an HDMI 2.1 audio/video receiver, audio may drop out when playing back Dolby Atmos. [3345965]
  • Club 3D CAC-1085 dongle limited to maximum resolution of 4K at 60 Hz. [3542678]

If you look in the P3D cfg file and look for MAX_TEXTURE_REQUEST_DISTANCE= and change it to 32000.000000. This will help with the textures getting loaded more quickly.

Pretty sure I did that and didn't make much meaningful difference. EIther way not necessary as I have my sim in an optimal config now without dynamic texture streaming enabled

I have been testing Nvidia Image Scaling and it works well, with my 4K monitor enabled NIS in the control panel then set the res in P3Dv5 options display too 1440P half res, start the flight in full screen and NIS shows in the top left when working. Did not use FFTF not needed Fraps up.
