March 28, 20224 yr I'm running an Intel 6600K CPU overclocked to 4.5, EVGA 1070 8 GB GPU, 32 gb ram at 3000, a 1 TB M.2 hard drive and I have 160 GB of free space on my drive. I have a download speed of 15 mpbs. I'd like an opinion on how MSFS2020 would run on my system. Many thanks, Lewis
March 28, 20224 yr Administrators I have moved you into the proper forum for your question. The rest of it will probably be able to run MSFS, but don't expect to run it on ultra graphics or have great FPS in the A320 at EGLL. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
March 28, 20224 yr I used to run similar specs as you but with a 6700K and a new video card. Same amount of ram and speed. I mainly fly in the FBW A320. It was manageable with settings at medium and some high. As Fiorentoni say, you need more hard drive space.

My base install of the standard edition is over 160GB.. that's before any addons (I'm over 1TB in addons) If you only have 160GB free on a 1TB drive i wouldn't install another thing on that drive. Using over 75% capacity on an SSD starts degrading drive performance quite drastically. As for your specs... You should be able to run at a locked 30FPS with high-ish settings at 1080p Not sure if your internet speed is going to be an issue though...
March 29, 20224 yr Agree that the SSD is far too full. The last 20% of space should only ever be used for very temporary storage for an hour or two while moving stuff about, it is not meant to be permanently full. WRT to running MSFS, that system, with a bit more disk space, will run fine at 1080p on medium/high settings with maybe the odd thing on Ultra, but is unlikely to handle 4K or VR on ultra.
March 29, 20224 yr I have similar system with 6700K running at 4,7ghz OC and a GTX980Ti, 32GB 3200 RAM. I did invest in a top notch motherboard (it does make a difference) and PSU to tie it all together at the time. I run at 1440p (3K). More powerful hardware is a nice to have, certainly not essential to get full enjoyment. Cost vs reward rapidly diminishes when forking out for latest CPU’s and GPU’s. My setup is locked at 30 FPS and is LIQUID SMOOTH 95% of the time flying A32NX and other default and payware aircraft into/out of default and payware complex airports. Running Track IR, AIG, GAIST and Navigraph, 250 community addon folders, Live weather, and all online options active except multiplayer. I have a 50 Mbs wired fibre connection. Settings are key and I run a mix of HIGH and ULTRA. Only Medium setting is glass cockpit refresh rate but difference is hardly noticeable). Apart from your hard drive space ( just pop a new 500GB SSD or Nvme drive in and dedicate it to MSFS, you will be perfectly fine. Knowing each setting, what it does and it’s individual effect on FPS is important. For some settings the visual difference between Ultra and High is almost imperceivable, except for the impact on frame rate, so slightly lower settings don’t mean you are missing out on anything at all. Oh, and for your own sanity, buy it on Steam, not MS Store. Runs fine at 30 fps at 1080 resolution. Install a dedicated 500 GB SSD and you are good to go. 15 Mbps is not great, but it will work. I started with 6 Mbps, now have 25-30 Mbps... Bert
