April 30, 20224 yr Thank goodness for the spacing of the bars on that window. When we installed a swimming pool some years ago we had two small kids and decided a fence around the pool was necessary. We opted for a wrought iron design with vertical spacing of the bars similar to that in the video. How far apart should the bars to be? Easy, the fence installer measured the head of our youngest son. He told us that the kid might get the rest of his body through the fence but if the spacing of the bars was less than the diameter of his head all would be well. And that video proves he was right. I thought there must be a standard for the vertical spacing just as there is for a baby's crib. I found a couple of standards, for the state of Maine and for my home town of Toronto, and they both agree that the minimum spacing should be 4". Dugald Walker

Like everything it would vary state to state, but yes I think when it comes to pools most jurisdictions have now adopted a fairly consistent standard on new builds, but have a grandfather clause in existing pools. I used to do CAD Drawings so when it comes to installing equipment in the USA it varies, they do have the NFPA which is federal, followed by state rules, then local rules, therefore their is no consistent standard when installing equipment in the USA, every job varies.
