June 4, 200719 yr I've got a new rig on order, hope to have it by the weekend. Hope to have X-Graphics 30 seconds later. One question, is ASX complicated to use? (I'm a bit of a shmoo, you see.) Is there a "Place hurricane here" button or do I have to input the physical qualities of time and space and lay down a hyperventilating wind grid of non-particular quantom grief? Thanks. ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
June 4, 200719 yr OK All,Understood now. Let's please move on or contact us privately!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
June 4, 200719 yr Hi Eric,Once we get a hurricane, the data will automatically show up. Things can be easy. If not, then drop me a note!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
June 4, 200719 yr I got my bundled copy yesterday. I was really looking forward to this add-on.I like the interface very much and the sky graphics are stunning. I havent played around or spent much time with the new ground effects yet.I also like the way flight planner works with setting Wx scenarios en route. That's really cool.I flew around the Aspen, Colorado area as a test. It seemed to me that the Air Density (airport is over 7k ASL) and Winds Aloft were fairly realisitic. I pretty much needed to use the entire runway to take off using my Carenado U206 StationairMy only issue concerns blurries. I had previously worked through them before the ASX X Graphics install, and I eliminated them. After the ASX and X Graphics install, they are back & quite terrible, from a ground perspective. (Airport fences trees etc..)FPS stayed the same - I am getting 20 - 50 with SP1 with the unlimited setting.I will tweak a bit more to see if I can work the blurries out.PC Specs:Dell Dimension 91003ghz Intel P4 (Single)2 Gb DDR2 RAM350 GB SATA HDATI X800XL 256 MB Video (PCI-e)SoundBlaster Audigy (something or other)CH Products Pedal Yoke setup
June 4, 200719 yr I wanted to clear something up about a post I made earlier concerning competition in the "Add-On" industry. I was not saying that the new ASX/GraphicsX package is overpriced based on what you get. I would venture to say the package would be worth $70 to me if it was the best "Weather/Sky Texture" package on the market. After reading my post again I thought it may have sounded like I didn't think the product was worth $70, and I wanted to make sure I let everyone know this is not my opinion at all. In the end, I will choose a "Weather/Sky Texture" package based on what it offers me, and I would be willing to pay $70 for it. I guess price isn't the most important issue to me in making this decision. The Active Sky developers seemed to have really put together a very good software package for FSX.
June 4, 200719 yr Jim, just want to say that I downloaded the product bundle last night. I had a little problem getting ASX to work properly because I've got a Home Network and had to to fiddle-around with SimConnect, which I didn't anticipate. But somehow, with your online support documentation on how to configure and install SimConnect, I got it to work properly. I impressed myself to get this accomplished because I wouldn't consider myself to be a computer-geek; it wasn't that daunting a chore . Looks real good on my system. One question, have you guys played with your program running DX10, I'm curious to see if future displays with DX10 will look even better? Will Active Sky and X Graphics run automatically when DX10 becomes operational or will a patch be needed?Tony
June 4, 200719 yr >Will Active Sky and X Graphics run>automatically when DX10 becomes operational or will a patch be>needed?I am no expert in this area but as far as I understand the overall software architecture DirectX is a fairly low level stuff and applications such as ASX do not have to concern themselves with nuts and bolts. ASX for example issues a 'directive' to say construct a certain cloud and the lower software will take it and execute it whatever way it deems appropriate. So I don't see a connection between DirectX and ASX but I could be wrong of course. FSX of course will need a patch to take advantage of the DirectX10 but again - this a a low layer in the FSX, below the ASX. I don't think ASX has to make any calls to DirectX package.Michael J.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9320/apollo17vf7.jpg Michael J.
June 4, 200719 yr Hi Tony,That is excellent! No, because we don't have any DX10 FSX patch yet. We have Vista users and dx10 video cards, but we will not know more until later. Once the dx10 patch is closer we may be able to release more information on our forum in the Fall. Who knows what the future holds!!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
June 5, 200719 yr I'm a flight sim noob, but an old RL pilot, and my first impression of FSX pre SP1 was pretty bad. SP1 helped things quite a bit for my fairly capable computer, but this bundle takes the thing to a whole new level of immersion.I'll admit I really thought twice before paying all that money, but I'm really glad I did. Not much time yet to really explore the programs other than to comment on the dramatic improvement.Pretty messy day for this time of year here in the Pacific Northwest, but now FSX looks really close to the way it looks outside. At the very least I now feel like I'm flying in the sim and not trying unsuccessfully to convince myself of that, the way it was before.Anyway, happy customer here and appreciate the hard work I know you guys have put into these two great programs.cheers, steve
