HiFi release TWO new products for FSX

Featured Replies

ahh ok, thanks for the clarification. Just out of curiousity, is there anyway in the future to depict other weather phenomena like tornadoes, tsunamis, etc...not that I am a disaster buff or anything but it would be cool to see those happening in the sim as in real life.

The US West coast mirror seems broken for the combo download. I am getting only 480MB and the ZIP file won't open (missing the index at the end).So try using the East coast mirrors instead if you also can't open the ZIP.

Hi Damian, ChrisCongratulations to you both!! I have no doubt others were also involved in this wonderful production and, of course, kudos to them as well. This combo of products really is a masterpiece, a proverbial tour de force and, without a doubt, has to be the most significant addon yet in the history of the Flight Simulator series. You should be feeling very proud of this milestone achievement. The GUI is brilliant and entirely intuitive - I haven't even looked at the documentation yet ;)Many, many thanks! This will certainly transform my appreciation of FSX and rekindle my determination to make this sim perform as well as it can on my current system.Very best regards,Mike

Make sure you got 520MB, not 480... the West coast mirror didn't serve me a complete download and Windows complained about a ZIP archive that it couldn't read.

I had AS6 on my second computer to help performance of FS9. With the improved FPS of the FSX version can it be installed on the same computer as FSX with little or no loss of performance? My system has a core 2 duo E6600, 2G DDR2, 2 WD 75G HD in raid 0 config and a NVIDIA 8800GTS with the 158.22 drivers. Also have the May 2007 direct x update. Thanks in advance,Tom

aaahhhhh! Next time I'll read it more closely!! Duh.Anyway, Damian, Chris, et al - this addon should be a strong signal to all other developers - and particularly to the naysayers - that FSX CAN be heavily modified successfully with little or no frame-rate impact, and that all that is REALLY required is the hardware upgrade - which, with almost all of the previous FS versions, as with many other games and graphics applications, is a necessary step to take anyway. It was a leap of faith; I did it, and I'm now enjoying a phenominal flight simulation. A $2000 dollar hurdle stops hurting after a couple of weeks, right? Again, a sincere "Well Done and Many Thanks".:)Regards,

Hi Tom, my rig is very similar to yours and I can say that I saw no decrease in FPS with ASX or XG. Even the X-gauge works with little or no FPS hit and when I say little I mean MAYBE 1 or 2 FPS but really I couldnt see a difference.

All I can say is "Wow". I downloaded the package last night and had only a few minutes to tinker this morning. I loaded the real weather for my local airport, and was extremely impressed. We get a lot of sun showers in my area, and ASX depicted it very accurately. I also had a huge increase in performance, thanks to the adjusted weather settings in FSX.My only question is this: do the local airports recognize IFR conditions with the imported weather? I was flying in limited visibility (very low clouds) near KDEN and requested to land and they allowed me to. I would have thought that was IFR conditions. maybe I just need to get in the middle of a real weather front and test that out.Anyway, this is a great package of programs.

Quite a few posts ask about frame rates. To get a clear cut concise answer is like the impossible dream.Frame rates vary from computer to computer - some will have no loss, some with little or some with lots. It all comes down to what you have in your computer - a top line graphics card, amount of RAM, CPU size etc.If your computer is a custom built machine with top of the range 'everything' installed (no budget limit) chances are you will have no frame rate/performance loss at all. On the other hand, if your computer is the 'bugdet' off the shelf version, then you will no doubt suffer some frame rate/performance loss. For example, I run ASX and XGraphics on my 2 computers - one is custom built with top of the range everything installed (no budget limits here) and I have no frame rate/performance loss at all (locked at 50fps). On the other hand, my off the shelf job (budget model) suffered a frame rate loss of 2-5 fps - mainly because it has the 'generic' el cheapo graphics card, 1gig RAM and wasn't manufactured for gaming specifically. Its just an average computer but still gives me a reasonable 20 - 25 fps in moderate stormy conditions.Your frame rate/performance loss will also depend on the aircraft you are flying - generic MS aircraft that ship with FSX will give better performance with ASX and XGraphics than perhaps one of the many 'add-on' aircraft available. FSX settings also play a huge part - lower settings give better fps and performance and the higher you go the more chances of some or a lot of loss. There are too many variables to say if you will suffer a loss or not.Damian and his team have worked hard to minimise frame rate and performance loss (as they have done with all previous versions of their weather programs). You can be assured that if there is a way to squeeze more, Damian and his crew will find it.For those considering purchasing ASX and XGraphics - you wont be disappointed, they are absolutely AWESOME!!! and worth every cent.

Nigel,Thanks.Tom

>> Does it smooth out the rapid wind changes I see in the>default FSX weather engine, also does it fix the sudden and>abrupt visablity changes?>It does appear to be smoothing out the rapid wind changes. It also appears to fix the sudden vis changes. That part I need to fly more to know for sure but in 1 flight I did not notice any abrubt vis changes. I flew thru some clouds and noticed that, but I don't think that was a sudden vis shift. I hope not at least. Both of these things (rapid wind shifts, vis shifts) were the two biggest problems we faced in wx depiction in FS. One could overstress crash your aircraft, and the other shot a hole in realism.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian
