Hey guys I am looking to sell my beloved 1080ti.

and I am not sure wether to get the 3080ti or the 3090.

will my i9900k  not oc be a bottleneck?

will my 850w power supply Corsair be sufficient ?

thanks

mike

The 3090 isn't worth the extra money for the very slim performance increase.

An 850w power supply can run a 3080ti just fine.

Thanks for the reply Greg. Do you think my cpu will bottleneck with the 3080ti?

thanks

mike

What is your CPU?

Gigabyte x670 Aorus Elite AX MB; AMD 7800X3D CPU; Deepcool LT520 AIO Cooler; 64 Gb G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO DDR5 6000; Win11 Pro; P3D V5.4; 1 Samsung 990 2Tb NVMe SSD: 1 Crucial 4Tb MX500 SATA SSD; 1 Samsung 860 1Tb SSD; Gigabyte Aorus Extreme 1080ti 11Gb VRAM; Toshiba 43" LED TV @ 4k; Honeycomb Bravo.

I would argue the extra memory on the 3090 can be worth it if you use 4K. If you’re not in 4K, there is probably very little to no benefit of the 3090 over a 3080 Ti.

850w would be the minimum I would recommend for either GPU.

Your CPU will be just fine, see my specs in my sig below, everything works great. But you may want to hold off another month as the 4000 series cards should be releasing soon.

With that said either GPU will allow you to run every game on ultra settings. Prepar3d is the only sim or game I don't have every setting maxed out. But I have them high enough to look amazing and still be smooth.

I have just swapped out my Zotac 1080TI for an EVGA FTW3 3080TI and have been blown away by the performance difference. I currently have an i5 9600K @ 5Ghz and I was surprised how well it runs with the 3080TI. I plan on swapping out my motherboard/CPU for an i7 12700K next week.

I did some conservative tests with the same settings I used with my 1080TI and instead of running around 30fps I was actually seeing over 60fps in full 4K in the Cessna 172. I am going to spend a bit of time tomorrow dialing the settings in for this combo to see what I can achieve for some of the airliners. My current 2012 Coolermaster case does not have the best airflow so I plan on changing it as well to a Corsair 4000D Airflow.

One thing I did today was undervolt the 3080TI and saw the following improvements on a 1 hour test flight:

Before:

GPU Temp - 77
Mem Temp - 80
Hot Spot - 82
Max Boost - 1920
Fan Speed - 73% / 1830rpm
Voltage - 1068 mv
GPU Power - 376

After:

GPU Temp - 68
Mem Temp - 76
Hot Spot - 76
Max Boost - 1910
Fan Speed - 65% / 1520rpm
Voltage - 925 mv
GPU Power - 300

This was the tutorial I followed

I was actually quite surprised at the results and it is much quieter. I will definitely be doing this once I get my new case as the performance difference was tiny but GPU temp, Fan Speed & GPU Power draw was definitely worth it. Even the RAM temps dropped and stayed there. My power supply is a NZXT 750W dating back to 2012 so I will probably be swapping it out for an 850W as well

Long story short I can definitely recommend the EVGA FTW3 3080TI. I paid $1,200 CDN for it and it is 3 months old and was boxed like new with a receipt. I checked with EVGA and they will honor the 3 year warranty as well. I know it is still expensive but the same card here in Canada is around $1,500 plus taxes so I am pretty happy.

Will definitely be infesting if the price changes or how fast they really are? I don't expect anything crazy thanks for the link Raymond
