August 9, 20223 yr the 6/28 nvidia driver could be the issue, it caused me all kinds of issues in x-plane 11, p3d and MSFS. I am kind of shocked NVidia hasn't released a new driver. i rolled back to the one at the end of May. that should at least fix your video card problem.
August 10, 20223 yr Author I just downloaded the newest NVIDIA driver 516.94. I have not yet flown a long flight to test if this has stopped the memory problem. Terry
August 11, 20223 yr Author I just downloaded the newest NVIDIA driver 516.94. I have not yet flown a long flight to test if this has stopped the memory problem. Terry I have flown two test flights with two different results. The first was completely normal in the default 737 and a little over four hours with zero problems. KFWA-KSEA to include sormy wx on arrival. The second was in the default 747 from KSFO-EGLL. Somewhere in the flight (after I went to bed) the sim/computer started to slow down to about 9 FPS. Message said my settings were too high. Theses were the exact same settings as in the above flight. Only the aircraft were different. Since I was at FL310, I do not think rendering scenery was too much for the sim as the route was over the pole or way up north. With the results so far, time and aircraft seem to be the only things different. I might try a 737 flight for a longer time by adding more fuel in flight to run up the time. If no problem noted, then it looks like maybe the 747 is the problem. When the sim FPS slows down, so does the computer's temp, fan speeds, load, etc. This would be expected since the work load demanded by the sim program has gone down. Terry
August 11, 20223 yr More than likely the graphics driver was causing this issue. Vulkan device loss means the driver stopped responding to the X-Plane requests to draw data. Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. August 12, 20223 yr Author Thanks for the update link. Last night I flew a 9.7 hour flight in the 737 with several in-flight re-fuelings to extend the normal range with zero problems. Will try to install this Sparky fix and see what happens. Terry TerryI
August 13, 20223 yr Commercial Member If you are using ortho sceneries, especially made with ortho4xp, be sure to limit the number of active tiles in scenery_packs.ini to a reasonable number. I had huge fps drops in Vulkan mode, out of memory crashes, you name it, all before I found out that I had over 300 active ortho tiles (entries) in the scenery_packs.ini file. Now when I want to fly around EU, I use xOrganizer to limit the number to 10-20 tiles maximum if I fly GA VFR local, or let xOrganizer do its job and selects only the tiles around the flightplan if I'm flying airliners. Right now I'm flying around USA, and using Forkboy's ortho, no need so far for deactivating any state. It seems that XP11 doesn't handle very well too many entries in the scenery_packs.ini, and that is a huge drawback of using Ortho4XP. I never learned how to merge many tiles into a single scenery entry (for example for the whole Germany), so I decided to move to USA for a change. 🙂 I'm using Vulkan mode atm, and it works really good. When I had over 300 entries in scenery_packs.ini, OpenGL couldn't even load a flight, RAM usage went over 30GB and XP11 crashes. In Vulkan mode I saw HUGE fps drops (over 50%), so it was a disaster in VR. So, my point is, limit the number of entries in the scenery_packs.ini file. August 21, 20223 yr Commercial Member Also, don't forget to close XP11 before changing to another addon airplane, especially if it's detailed one (4k cockpit and body textures all around). Did some testing last night, and changed probably 3 or 4 airplanes in the process (Toliss A319, Thranda Beaver, LevelUp 737NG and then finally ZIBO), and finally XP11 crashed after I took off with ZIBO, with a some Vulkan device loss error. Log.txt showed errors regarding VRAM being full, so... Luckily my sim is loading pretty fast, so it's not an issue for me. I was just in hurry last night, and wanted to test the more airplane I could. After it crashed I immediately started pulling my hair, until I realized that I loaded 4 pretty high resolution VRAM demanding airplanes without closing the sim. 🙂 XP11 simply doesn't manage VRAM pretty well, especially in Vulkan mode, which is knows it's VRAM hungry (more VRAM utilization = less stutters).
