Has there been an official statement about what happened to the promised scenery improvements by the guys from East Europe Austin mentioned on earlier occasions? I wouldn't have seen any.

No. They are otherwise keeping that secret/a surprise atm.

That statement might hold true for a long time. Just saying.

Probably "East Europe" says it all....

Anyway, I am having a great time with the SimHeaven-enhanced autogen. For me it is more than good and sufficient. I prefer to concentrate on the accuracy of flight dynamics, weather modelling, ATC.

In this three areas I find XP12 is already better, as good or has the potential to get as good or better ( weather ) than the alternatives.

East Europe is more than Ukraine. But the absence of a statement usually doesn't mean much good.

XEurope is great, but it should be stock in sim data. And not eat so many fps.

Sure thing.

Let's just agree that XP is bestest no matter what. I feel that is a very balanced view.

That is the sarcasm I replied too.  A balanced view would be both simulators have good points and both are worthy of using.

Of course, it doesn't surprise me at all that people on an X-Plane forum are complementary towards X-Plane.

They don't need to be, it's about science, math, aerodynamics and hitting the numbers.

So you shouldn't "weep" over the fact software engineers, who are also very good at aerodynamics, might not be certified to fly the actual aircraft.

Agreed that this is crucial for laying out the foundation of the flight model. However when there's either no or minimal flight test data publicly available to tune the model (which is most of the time), you have to rely on those who have been behind the stick to make the final calls on dynamics.

Published, steady-state behaviors (eg cruise climbs) are easy for us computer nerds to chase down but Boeing doesn't release accelerometer data on roll-yaw coupling tests, for example.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

I'm surprised we even got the forestry at this stage. Assuming the rest is of equal quality I can completely understand how Austin was very happy with their output.

Plus not so much of a rush now the existing autogen no longer looks like "lego bricks" as Greazer called them. I would suspect the need to fix the bathymetry issues and general sim issues first before cutting a completely new world with new things broken.

That is good news. Were any adjustments needed for 22.04? I don't run Ubuntu but am curious if anything needed to be installed or if it worked right away?

This is both good news and very amusing. I hadn't heard of this result before: going from blurry textures in win to sharp in Linux. But like you say, there are many possible variables at play. Some are also seeing a slight performance increase in Linux.

Sorry for my late reply, lots of things have been going on in this thread in the meantime.

The tips pterosaur had for me were related to the graphics drivers of Nvidia. They have to be installed before the XP12 installer will start, as well as the Vulcan driver (normally included with Nvidia).

When I had both installed, I could start the installer and enjoy XP12 under Linux Ubuntu 22.04

However and with respect to the blurryness, I never had that phenomenon in Linux, neither in the newly installed version nor in the old Windows version, where I only had to add a few files and all worked just fine under Ubuntu.

Yesterday I decided to try again and when starting XP12 in Windows I received the offer to upgrade - which I then did

After that update there is now no more blurriness and all looks sharp and crispy like before. I have not touched my Windows setup, the only difference being this update for XP12b8.

I had filed a bug report though, never received any reaction from Laminar, but as it seems they took this as a trigger to release this update that toook care of my problem. So, THANK YOU AUSTIN AND CREW! 🙂
