Too heavy to fly?

Featured Replies

I remember the days when before boarding a flight you stepped and a scale and your weight and your luggage weight were logged and given to the pilot so he could figure weight and balance.

Our fattening population now has led to this.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I just read the article and saw the (screen shot below) what the FAA uses as average weights. It’s incredible that these are now average weights!

Frankly I don’t understand why so many Americans let themselves get so obese? I understand a lot of it being lifestyle related, as in Americans eating large portions, lack of physical activity, poor dietary intake, etc., but still. I’ve always been pretty health conscious, and have always been in sports of some type, but if I noticed I was starting to rapidly put on weight, I’d do something about it. Not only due to the vanity aspect, but also for health.

Here in the US, we’ve almost started to celebrate obesity. I don’t agree that people should be fat shammed or put down for being obese, but I also don’t think we should be celebrating it or saying it’s  good or healthy to be obese.

I can only imagine at the rate we’re going, in the next 10-15 years we might be looking at a major epidemic of people with heart disease, diabetes and other health issues.

The secret is.................Carbs and SUGAR!

At my worst, I was around 232 lbs.  On my yearly trip to have my checkup with my primary care physician, she ordered a blood sugar test.  It came in at 5.6 and she said that was one tenth of a point from being considered pre-diabetic and being put on medication.  She simply said cut your carbohydrates way down and cut out all sugar, as much as possible.  Within 8 months of doing that, I was down to 194 lbs and buying a bunch of new pants!  The only thing I use real sugar for is to refill the hummingbird feeder.  Splenda is an OK substitute in coffee.  Oatmeal instead of the high sugar cereals and sugarless maple syrup for my weekly pancakes!  It takes will power! 🙃

I have always wondered about the weight of individual passengers on flights. In extreme circumstances, this could significantly affect weight and balance calculations for the aircraft. Surely this is potentially dangerous? Some people can weigh twice as much as I do!

Maybe they should sell airline tickets like they sell meat at the butcher shop.  Each passenger is weighed in and buys a ticket at x$s a a pound.

😂😂😂 That would be great for me since I’m a slender, light weight chap.

Paying by weight would make sense as after all that is how freight costs are calculated.

Remember though those average weights include cabin baggage.
