December 3, 20223 yr There's a YouTube video from a couple of years back that may help in getting the lighting to your satisfaction:P3Dv5.1 | [SOLVED] Overly bright/dark sims and flight decks | CALIBRATING 5.1 CORRECTLY | 2020 - YouTube I think the first thing to try if using EA is to turn HDR off in the P3D config file if you don't have an HDR capable monitor (check in Windows Display settings to see if you have HDR enabled). Then, in P3D.cfg, look for the line that says HDR=1 and change it to HDR=0. Save the cfg, start P3D and enjoy. You'll get the best of both worlds. This does not work for me. I have an HDR monitor, and doing this in the config leaves me with a very dark environment (completely) when I go back to P3d. BTW, some cockpits are quite acceptable. It depends on the plane. Some cockpits are exceptionally dark. It really depends. The situation does not exist, however, if EA is off. All cockpits are fine with EA off. So, something in EA must trigger this massive shade difference. Edited December 3, 20223 yr by spilok

Kind of nice sometimes to use addons that just can't Geha with version five due to elevation issues etc. I guess everything in life seems to be a tradeoff. 😒 May I ask why you recommend 4.3 and not 4.5? Or even just remaining with 5.3 and turning EA off and using Active sky or Rex? 4.3 seems drastic. Cheers Steve Hall
December 3, 20223 yr One suggestion, and it’s not a free one, is to get RDshade. That’s the only program I’ve seen that allows you to increase brightness in the cockpit without making the outside world brighter as well. Edited December 3, 20223 yr by okupton Orman

Thread linked below has a screenshot of the type of dark cockpit I've been seeing. https://forum.rdpresets.com/topic/212-still-a-dark-cockpit-cockpit-brightness-setting-below-01/ Kyle Weber (Private Pilot, ASEL; Flight Test Engineer)Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM

Thanks for sharing. Glad to see they haven’t totally abandoned rdshade. One other suggestion I have is using reshade in conjunction with RDshade. Which planes are you seeing the dark cockpit in? I could try to recreate in my sim. Orman
