I keep my install on its own ssd. It still annoyingly manages to keep files under c:\users\name\documents etc.. though

D:\P3Dv5 works for me. Keeps path names as short as possible.

Hi Ray,

Do you have prepared related files in your c:\users\name\documents\ as well?  I've always wanted to figure out a way to get them out of there.

c:\users\name\documents\ is the default location for P3D add-ons files.
Most installers allow for them to be placed anywhere but default to that location.
In fact, it doesn't matter where they are, so long as P3D is told where that is.

so it seems, I'll have to convince OneDrive to exclude those folders.

Thanks!

Yes. I imagine another location can be used but it would mean editing a lot of files that point to it. Every add-on.xml probably.

Unless you’re desperately short of space I’d leave that area alone.

Ok I just spent the last hour trying to log into the P3D downloads so I can download the exe file again. I cannot find my license info and for some reason the customer account information is not accepting my email address that I used when I purchased P3D. Hopefully someone at P3D can help me.

Not sure if anyone already answered...but in the future P3AO would do the trick without wasting time.....

Also if you have FSDT sceneries or any of their product this might help....  https://qlm1.net/virtualisoftware/qlmcustomersite/

I usually install Prepar3D into C:\Prepar3d v5

I wouldn't install it to another drive (non C:) for the purpose of reusing an install in the future thought, there would be too many things that break. Where reasonable, I also direct things like ActiveSky to install there as well.

Also, doesn't P3D add stuff to the C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder? So wouldn't it cause trouble if you install P3D on a different drive?

No, even if you do not use the default folder, the folder you mentioned is still used to save settings and files.

Problem is if you install P3D to D: and then reinstall windows on C: it and most of the add-ons may have issues.

@Joseph29, you didn’t say which folder you reinstalled P3D v5 to. The same as the original or a new one?

There’s nothing wrong with installing P3D to another SSD drive letter. I’ve done this for years. OS on C, P3D on D. Don’t install to OneDrive. It’s a cloud-based area and Microsoft only give you a limited free amount. Access will be slower too.

Those other folders in appdata on C are fixed. They have to be for the sim to work properly.

I don’t understand your last point. Windows has to be on C. If Joseph is starting again then it’s fine to install P3D onto D. All addon scenery will need to be installed again but that can be done gradually.

For now I reinstalled it to the C drive. Since I didn't install any add ons, flyable aircraft, or AI aircraft yet I could do another reinstall and put it on my D drive.

Path? I highly recommend avoiding Program Files area. If your D drive has plenty of space install there.

I didn't install it to the Program Files folder. I made a new folder and I installed it to C:\Lockheed Martin Prepar3D
