Hi, I am taking off today from CYYC to KLAX and all i see is a snowing landscape beneeth me.

How is MSFS dealing with this btw?

This is one of my top 2 or 3 biggest gripes with MSFS.  How they think this is acceptable is really beyond me.  If fault is completely with meteoblue, one would think their are contractual performance requirements...

Looking at some webcams for calgary international there seems to be snow on the ground in and around Calgary.  Meteoblue has snow depth of about .3 to .5 meters around calgary, so they must have had some snow recently.

Even though the temperature at Calgary today is (relatively) warm, it has snowed previously and there is still snow on the ground in the city, and heavy snowcover on the mountains immediately to the west. That snow will be there until spring.

 

The snow is mostly spot on in the sim, except a few anomolies, like Mount cook area in New Zealand has eternal snow or something, same with a spot in Island. But mostly when I fly different parts of the world its very correct. 

But the Ice on the sea is really a problem. I never fly in my home country during winter because of all the sea ice. But I think I heard they will fix it...

Those are called mountains and yes we have plenty of snow right now over there even in SoCal

There is no problem with California though . I fly over here all the time in sim and rl.

Ha ha no mountains in that area i described , but 14c . I guess you like the snow when also dealing with extreme heat during summer.

You got snow in KLAX? Are your sure?

or may be something like that (photo below)? You do understand that surface temperature drop 2C every 1000 ft?

I had total snow covering from CYYC and all the way down to KSFO then towards KLAX it vanished. Temp could be my mistake but i believe it was around 11-14c AGL at KRDD .

this is the problem.  Snow coverage in areas where mountains surround in close proximity.  It's almost as it has to be all or nothing.  Not just snow in the mountains but not the low land near them.   I've been told the reason this issue occurs is because msfs is using a lower resolution of meteoblue's snow coverage map.  But I'm not sure if that is still correct.

I fly alot in alaska and northern USA / Canada.  It's a significant problem .

Yes, in some parts of alaska and Canada, new Zealand, iceland etec the world is not yet perfect. 

Its on the todo list for asobo, so it will be better. For me it works with 90% of my flying all over the globe.... 

Seems just like your are unlycky with your area to fly. Have a few myself i stay away from until it gets better...

yeah alaska is a pretty big disappointment in MSFS.  Which is a shame.  Because it should be one of the places that could be phenomenal in this simulator.
