hot CPU

Exactly what I had on my laptop 9900K, getting over 95C, crashed often. After lowering the voltage no problems anymore

Time to check your cooling setup, buddy. Something is wrong in the cooling link. If you have not overclocked then time to check, cooler and contact, pump (if applicable) and fans. If you have overclocked and don't know any of that then roll back overclock and don't do it again.

the airflow through the case plus the heatsink on his cpu is probably garbage.

Yes! Agree! For my last three systems, all built for me by Microcenter here in the USA with the components I chose, my first component chosen was the MB, followed next by the CPU, then case, then the liquid  cooler.  I choose mid tower cases with excellent airflow.  Note I did not mention the GPU in that sequence.  It is the easiest component to install/replace so can follow the other component decisions given the case has adequate physical room for an upscale GPU.

first, im not sure how this relates to what i said.

second, are you talking about order of installed parts or the order you decided on what components your system would be?  no one chooses a motherboard first then cpu.  you would do the opposite.

You can't crash in MSFS unless your flying skills are really lousy IMO.

Given that you have stated that your temp is 95 there is something wrong with your cooling. It should not be that high. That temp is ridiculous. Forgive me if I have missed it but are you air cooling or liquid cooling? Regardless, first port of call is the contact to the cpu. I would remove the cooler and clean the cooler contact and the cpu up before applying new "paste" and then the cooler. If that fails then what I did next would depend on the type of cooler installed.

my computer is fine, its the OP that has the temp issue.

Was supporting your assessment of air flow.  Just edited that post to make it more clear. And in regard to MB vs CPU, MB classes support multiple CPU's so I pick a MB that covers the range.  For the MB I pay close attention to what they provide in regard to I/O ports.  The case, MB, and CPU typically form a "family", but i pay strict attention to airflow.

It's running in the 50s just sitting here on the internet with MSFS closed.  I downloaded NZXT, and it shows the CPU was around 90 during the sim, which is still hot.  In the past, I had the PC on the floor, and whenever I flew the sim, the fans would get REALLY loud.  Since then, I put it on risers, so the vents at the bottom can let air in.  That fixed the loud fan problem.  However, I'm not sure why the CPU fan is ramping up more if the CPU is really so hot.

It is worth noting that the 8700K starts to thermal throttle at 95C.  Tj max is 100C .

You are not getting to 100 because the processor is throttling back when it hits 95C to protect itself.

This may not be the cause of the CTDs but needs addressing as it will substantially effect performance under heavy load.  If your overclocking back off a bit or improve the cooling.

Also, with your current cooling you will probably see a performance increase by under-volting a touch as under-volting may pull you back from the throttling region.

50's whilst idle isn't right. 90+ with the sim running isn't right. I run a 5800X which is a hot chip. Idle, as I type to you is 34. During heavy load it never goes above 65 whilst simming. Ok, I have liquid cooling. But if you are running in the 50's (which is anything up to 60) with that chip whilst on a forum something is wrong with your cooling (or something really aggressive is ragging your CPU in the background) I am not sure of the exact limits of that chip but I would not be at all surprised if it starts clocking back at 90.

If that was my chip I would be straight in my case checking my contact and cooling AND dust build up from what you just wrote.

It's too hot. Whatever is happening those temps are much too hot.
