Lagging numbers.

Featured Replies

Hi Folks.

A young friend of mine is complaining about slow movement of gauge display numbers. By that, I mean, when he is tuning frequencies he sees the previous LED segments still showing faintly as the numbers change. Also, his speed and altitude tape numbers get jumbled together as he climbs or descends. Today, I showed him how to update his Nvidia card driver. He was quite a few driver versions behind. He is on Windows 11 and using an Nvidia RTX3060Ti. I have not spoken with him since he updated the driver as we were running out of time.

I seem to remember a while back that there was an issue with numbers and there was a fix for it. Does anyone remember if that was the case? If not, does anyone have any ideas why his numbers are not changing immediately and are 'lagging' slightly.

I hope this makes sense.

Regards...Kenny.

DLSS can cause that.  See if he's using DLSS in his Options-->Graphics settings.

Hello Rhett.

Okay, thanks. I'll put a message into his Discord channel to that effect. I'll post back if I may.

Cheers...Kenny.

If it's blurry numbers, it's probably DLSS. Supposedly, DLSS 3 may fix this, but the RTX 3060 Ti does not support DLSS 3, only the NVidia 4000 cards have DLSS 3.

I've noticed this a bit since the last sim update.  I think it's just another bug they've introduced that they may or may not get around to fixing. I don't think it has anything to do with his system or drivers.

It's only a minor irritation compared with some of the many other bugs and glitches.

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

Using DirectX12 Beta made my instruments blurry - sticking with DX11 for now. Also have a 3060Ti.

Slow numbers is due to his setting of Glass Cockpits Refresh (or something like that) in the Graphics options down at the bottom, that needs to be high for the numbers to scroll smoothly.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

There is also a setting in msfs options marked experimental, something like "use Nanovg-modus".   Supposedly it affects the manner in which XML gauges are rendered,   but I have absolutely no person al experience pertaining to it.

NanoVG Mode

This option will change the way XML gauges are rendered by the simulation, switching from the windows GDi render engine to NanoVG, which is the default on Xbox. This option is included to permit you to test that your XML gauges render correctly when the package is installed on an Xbox, and - in general - you should see little difference between the two render formats. It is worth noting that in the future NanoVG will be the default renderer for both platforms (PC and Xbox), so it's worthwhile testing your gauges even if you are not planning on releasing a package for Xbox.

Hi Folks.

Thanks for pitching in, pun intended...LOL. A lot of good info there. MarcG, yes, I think that is what I was trying to remember. I knew there was a setting but just could not remember on the spur of the moment when I was flying with him yesterday. gb09f, I'll tell him to check which DirectX version he is using. Thanks. Waldo, he is only thirteen but wishes to become a pilot. Messing with an experimental setting may be too much for him. Having said that, the majority of youngsters are more than likely way more tech savvy than I am. I'll mention it to him.

Thanks guys. I'll report back with any result.

Regards...Ken.
