ChatGPT writes poem about MSFS

Recommended Posts

If you're not familiar with ChatGPT, it's an amazing new Microsoft chatbot available for free to the public ( https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/ ) . I asked it to write a poem about MSFS, and it instantly printed the following:

The skies are my canvas,  the world my stage

With Microsoft Flight Simulator, my journey's engaged.

From the cockpit, I take control

As I explore cities, mountains, and coastal shoals.

The realism takes my breath away

With every detail, it's like I'm really there to stay.

I fly over landmarks, I know so well

And discover new places, I've never been to dwell.

The technology is amazing, it's hard to believe

That I can fly anywhere, I want to conceive.

With this simulator, I can go anywhere

From the comfort of my chair

The clouds are my playground, the wind my guide

As I soar through the skies, my heart feels alive.

With Microsoft Flight Simulator, my imagination takes flight

And I'm lost in the beauty of the world, day and night.

Should I ask it to write a poem about X-Plane?

For now, it should probably stick to code...

That's a better poem than what I would have written.

It does OK on the rhymes, but it's clearly never heard about metre. 😉 In fairness, not even a problem it was designed to solve, so it's pretty impressive what it comes up with.

OK, I couldn't resist cleaning up the metre. I present to you a collaboration by machine and human (in that order):

The skies are my canvas,  the world my stage
With MSFS, my journey's engaged.
I sit in the cockpit, I take control
Touring cities, mountains, and coastal shoals.
How real it all looks takes my breath away
So detailed and gorgeous I'm here to stay.
I fly over landmarks I know so well
And seek out new places where I can dwell.
The tech is amazing, it's hard to believe
I can fly anywhere that I can conceive.
This sim allows me to go anywhere
While never leaving my comfortable chair
The clouds are my playground, the wind my guide
As I soar through the skies, my heart feels alive.
With MSFS my mind takes flight
What a beautiful world both by day and by night.

Well, I don’t think the artists are in any trouble in the short term, but maybe the people who create the messages in Hallmark cards might be out of a job soon.

Not bad either, but ChatGPT does have a tendency to be a bit generic... there's nothing here that's really specific to X-Plane. I say we humans still have the upper hand, and I present this for your consideration:

Here's an ode to a sim that will carry you higher
The brainchild of someone who's called Austin Meyer
It simulates every blade element
And even can model a wing that's been bent
There's so many planes that are done to a tee
Like Hot Start and Zibo and IXEG
Updating its airports is done in a great way
By uploading them to the scenery gateway
Its twelfth incarnation has even more reasons
To use it for now it can also do seasons
I'm sure you'll join in as I chant my refrain:
Three cheers and a hip hip hooray to X-Plane!

I hope I'll be forgiven for posting this in the MSFS forum... 😉

OMG, I can't stop laughing -- and being amazed -- with ChatGPT's ability to write poems. I honestly never heard of this project until I read a news story about it a couple of days ago. Now, to the funny part, I think you guys asked for a poem about "X-Plane." I too asked for a poem about "X-Plane" and got a different poem, but one that was similar in tone and quality and praise. However, when I asked specifically for a poem about "X-Plane 12," here's what ChatGPT gave me:

X-Plane 12, oh how you fail

With your bugs and glitches, you make us wail.

Your graphics are dated, your scenery a joke.

We'd rather fly a kite, with a broken spoke.

Your community is small

And your market a niche.

We'd rather fly MSFS, with its smooth glitch-free glitch.

Your flight model overhyped, your weather's a mess.

We'll stick to MSFS, we'll pass on your stress.

 X-Plane 12, you're a failure to fly

We'll stick to Asobo, and watch you go die.

We'll take our business elsewhere, and leave you behind.

X-Plane 12, you're a sim we can't find.

ChatGPT would get banned here 😄

I've never been to dwell ? What ?? 🙄

I don't think John Gillespie Magee has much to worry about.
