Yes today the website seems to work again.

I understand this is a selection of online offers, from third party vendors, with no reliable or easy to find information about international shipping, or stock quantity, or anything 😕

I suspect some of these offers might actually be second hand too.

Yesterday evening I checked the HP online store in Italy, and guess what, they seem to still have a few G2 in stock.... but they don't ship them out of Italy. So much for Europe and Internet...

Based on what, exactly?

Based on my bad personal experience. For example, yesterday I searched on Amazon and the only result returned disappeared when I explicitly restricted the search to "New" items...

I checked the search results from that link again. The item from Amazon seems to be new and not second hand, but is now listed at 740 euros (+27 euros to ship it...)  instead of the price shown on the screenshot. 😕

EDIT: investigating further, one more point to be careful about is indeed the delivery. For example, the one sold on Ebay has two clear warnings: the product cannot be returned (great...) and shipping our of Germany is not sure, and in the case it might be possible it will probably cost more. AND you have to contact them by yourself...

Sorry but these options are not encouraging at all (I'm not throwing 700 euros or more in the dark). Nor are they bringing any proof that the production of the G2 hasn't stopped.

People in general seem to despise the idea of having to wear glasses or goggles, and so the majority moved to 4K instead of embracing 3D or VR.

I embraced 4K instead of VR purely because I couldn't deal with the low picture quality in VR. If they can get 4k monitor quality with wide FOV in VR, in a lightweight glasses/headset design,  THEN we are talking! Seems many years away...

Double post sorry.

I love VR but it seems obvious that the size of the market willing to strap what amounts to a piece of scuba diving gear to their heads will remain limited.

When they can produce something offering the visual quality and price range of the G2 in a pair of spectacles then someone will be onto a winner…..as long as it connects to an iPhone.

They're still not going to look like normal glasses. You need to completely black out everything but what the VR set displays or the VR is no longer nearly as R. So at most they'd have to downsize the goggles down to old-fart sunglasses.
