I would say if you fly VR, yes. In my cases, 4090 is definitely a big improvement over my 3090 to drive the HP Reverb G2 to the limit. But if you most fly on a single 4K screen, I'd bet 3080 should be just fine.

lol , no VR its a bit weird to me ( no offence ) yes 4K tv  in TAA mode ( 80%) , plus another 1080p monitor for other stuff , but this GPU cost me £800 a few months ago lol would rather spend on CPU/ MOBO right now , iam kind of a happy simmer but do like the bling but not when there is no real benefit if that makes sense

You are probably right in that. As to the OP's question, I didn't go from a 3*** to my 4080 but I did go from a 6800XT to it. And yes it was worth it. Doubled the FPS and completely eliminated the very rare stutters that I occasionally experienced.

Lucky you not into VR - it's so demanding on GPU and CPU (aka my credit cards..). With 10850k / 3090 I could run single 4K at TAA 150% with most graphic settings to ultra. There is really no reason to upgrade if I only want to stick with a single 4K screen.

I'm also waiting for 7950X3D to come out to decide which one to pick, 13900K or 7950X3D, to pair with 4090.

I have the same system as yours essentially but use a 3440x1440 Gsync display, and no VR.  There is no way I would throw out my own system for another as I already have perfectly fluid, stutter-free animation everywhere in all planes and that includes the most complex airports in the PMDG 738, FBW A320NX and AS CRJ.  My GPU is never limited.  I'm all Ultra.  My CPU is the only limiting factor, and only Terrain-LOD must be dialed back to cope with main thread impact which of course I'm doing to retain perfectly fluid performance but the reality is in a double-blinded test, w/o scrutinizing for it, the difference between T-LOD of 120 versus 200 is so paltry as to be essentially irrelevant.  Also, FSLTL is adjusted to keep airports and local skies sufficiently populated to provide ambience w/o being overly crowded, thankfully as that's bad enough in the RW don't need it here.  So for me, no way would I throw out this awesome system at this point in time.  I have no plans to use VR.

Well, if it weren't worth it to me I guess I wouldn't have gone out and bought one, so you're making something of a circular argument there...

It's a nice to have, not a must-have, but it really is NICE to have...sorta like a Corvette, a set of Ping clubs, or a Ski Nautique 200 are all nice to have if you are into cars, golf, or boats and can comfortably afford it.

no CPU upgrade doubles your fps like the 4090's frame generation fps doubler does:

those who do have an RTX 4090, can't wait for the launch of AMD's new 7900x3D CPU end of this month. after that: 2 years stagnation and nothing but pure joy of flying and exploring the world on the highest level.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

We’ve had several threads like this and been through this several times also by now. Short answer = yes.

Long answer, YES! For frame generation  alone.

Don’t listen to people who say wait for the 5090 or 6090. Do you want to wait all of your life? Do things in the present, not the future. It’s now that matters.

PS the 4 series is the greatest thing to happen to flight simulation in generations.
