General Aviation AI

I don’t know if we’d ever see a proper rendition of “live GA traffic” and I don’t think “live” matters anyway. But since many of us like live airliner traffic, it would be nice if Asobo could integrate the live commercial traffic with a generic GA traffic file. That would allow users to edit the traffic if they choose to (much like we could with P3D / FSX).

Of course, no matter the solution, we probably need several more AI models built and added to MSFS.

I must disagree, a proper rendition of "live GA traffic" is doable and is being done! Believe me I have it working in the sim using PSXT + AIG GA models and it works perfect to my requirements. I believe though it should by nice to have live GA traffic in the sim (same as they have live traffic for airliners) rather to have to pay additional service for it but hey it is a hobby and we pay for a lot of other services for our sim as well. I do agree with you that we need more GA models built and add into the AI library.

PSXT is great and I’ve enjoyed plane spotting with it for hours - especially after including GA fixed and helicopters to the mix.

But I’d also love a solution that is part of and responds to the ingame ATC and your own aircraft.  Phantom’s mod does provide this but there is plenty of room for improvement.

That is valid point you mentioned indeed, with PSXT you have the limitation that it doesn't interact with the sim ATC and that could be a valid limitation for the ones that see this as important.

Search for "Offline GA Traffic" from SimFlea it is not perfekt but gives me enough traffic with most small and medium sized airports. It also combines fine with FSLTL.

While it’s possible to have live GA (or to be precise for this purpose, privately owned small aircraft), I think populating the parking apron with all those privately owned aircraft to a level where the parking area looks realistic would be a challenge. For example, I may only fly my Piper on weekends... and it sits parked at my local airport all other times. If Live GA can show it parked, with a dozen other parked GA birds that may not be flown for days or weeks, that will be impressive.

Agreed.  Another reason why I think they need to give separate sliders for airliner versus GA statics (ie not JUST traffic but statics too).  I’d love to keep airliner statics at 0 but crank up the GA to fill the smaller fields

It would be great if there were GA traffic at smaller airports. The ai doesn’t have to  be spot on, you just need planes taxing and landing and maybe flying patterns.  This would make the immersion so much more complete. As you enter a runway or taxiway now there’s no reason to check for traffic as there is none. What a difference if you had to check and there really was something to watch for. Same thing for landing, you should to check for planes in the pattern  I’m not sure the current ATC could handle this, but I could do without it as a stopgap

I think this could be totally airport based…in other words, the traffic around a small airport need only be within say a 3-5 mile range. Not really sure if this is possible, but if scenery designers could set up traffic at airports they are creating, that would be a nice workaround. When I was designing airports in XP, there was a small add on that would add pattern traffic to a local airport. Made the area come much more alive.
