New Beta Update [1.31.21.0] - March 9th, 2023

Is the beta worth going to at this point? I know, subjective question, but I am trying to curb my curiosity or just give in.

Depends. Some developers will not offer support for their program, plane, utility, etc, if you're using it in the beta. So you might lose being able to fly your favorite airliner using your favorite moving map (as an example.)

And the fear mongers will tell you you'll have to reinstall MSFS once the beta ends or if you want to leave the beta. I've participated in all the MSFS betas and have left a few and later rejoined. I've never had to reinstall the sim and have never lost Control Options for the keyboard and yoke. However I do keep current backups of all data.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Yeah, I have learned my lesson with not backing up MSFS and that is no longer an issue. I just don't want to be sure I can fly and use everything I am now without any game breakers.

There were some issues on the initial version of this beta, and always will be for betas.  For instance, some Carenado and JustFlight aircraft were crashing the sim.
This got fixed quite quickly in a beta update (there have been a few now).

I currently have about 30 payware aircraft, including complex ones like the PMDG 737's, a community folder with nearly a terabyte of stuff in it, and MSFS is doing just fine.
I am really liking the refined turbulence model, and with adjustment now if people find it too much.

Ultimately it is up to you to take the plunge, but I would say this beta is very stable now in the main, and the last beta update was relatively small and just a few hundred MB - it will be released properly as SU12 in a week or two.

The issue will be the next SU beta.  If you opt in, you opt in for all the next ones as well unless you opt out, so just be aware of that.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I can wait for another 2 weeks for the final version, no problem at all for me 🤗

But good to hear people are supporting the betas because of course it is important for Asobo and the future of MSFS ..

cheers 😉

As has been stated many times: if you join a beta, expect CTDs, fubars, stuff not working, etc. That is the point of the beta - to test out things and report if they're not working.

A beta is not: "I get to use new word not allowed first before anyone else does."

It is both actually - they are not mutually exclusive.  You just have to learn you cannot take one without the other.  Never been a problem for me.
