Are clouds drawn at the same spots in the sky?

Featured Replies

Well,

the aim of my question is to satisfy the curiosity of those who might consider using MFS as a soaring simulator too...

Condorsoaring and Silentwings, but now also some combat flight simulators ( DCS and IL-2 ) ensure that on a multiplayer session all users see the cloud formations in the exact same place, with the exact same shape and life cycle (when they simulate clouds growth and fade, and their trajectories in the presence of wind).

This is something that I really don't know if the MFS weather engine does if all users participating in an online / multiplayer session, with the exact same Graphics options for "weather rendering". Do they all see exactly the same cloud patterns at the same places, cycle and drift?

Here I am using 2 MSFS pc’s connected by WidevieW.

At the same spots with Live Weather I see exact the same clouds. Structure, wind , everything same. It looks perfectly sync’d.

So clouds in MSFS with Live Weather are coordinate based with the same structure at these coordinates.

That's a valuable observation Gerard. Most of us can't test this scenario as completely and reliably as you have for obvious reasons - it requires 2 pc's, 2 copies of MSFS = $$$$. Your setup is the perfect test bed since you see the result side-by-side simultaneously. Thank you for this contribution!

Thx Gerard,

that's valuable feedback you gave, and also gives me good hope of being able to use MFS for a couple of tasks online with other simmers enjoying soaring 🙂

It's surprising that they are exactly the same. I expected it to be similar, but it really does look to match up perfectly.

Hi, thanks for your valuable feedback. I've been on the edge about buying 2 PCs and giving wideview 2021 a go... But what kept stopping me is the warnings on wideview website that weather won't match. So I signed up on avsim especially to ask you more about this...

How come wideview says weather/clouds won't match ? but in your experience (very exciting) that it actually matches dead on!  Any exceptions so far to this?

Plus I see wideview hasn't been updated since 2021 release? Is it due to an update ?

Thanks for all the help,

Danny

WidevieW cannot control the MSFS weather just like AS cannot and has not been released…

Just use Live Weather on all view pc’s and you will see sync’d weather.

HI Gerard,

How long does it usually take you to setup a flight in MSFS using your system? Just out of interest in your sim pit how do you put the client into the right place etc? Have you got a keyboard mouse connected to it to manually load up the client to the desired airport etc?

Are you able to confirm if the PMDG and FENIX can be run on different PC's (i.e. the SERVER and CLIENT?) Unlike you i'll be looking to use the virtual cockpit on both the SERVER and CLIENT.

Cheers

Kael Oswald
