June 23, 20232 yr Hi I'm new to Avsim but not to flight sim. I've just bought MS2020. A very steep learning curve. I've managed to take off in my Baron, but within minutes the avionics and engines cut out. Any clues please??? Rgds
June 23, 20232 yr Administrators You are now in the appropriate forum for your question. Do you have all of the updates installed? Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!
June 23, 20232 yr You may need to give more info.. Name all the hardware you have running and how you started up to begin with. Check the settings too. Make sure all the crash and stress options are switched to Off..

July 1, 20232 yr Author Thanks for all your responses. I have the same problem on the aircraft I've tried - the Baron, a single seat Cessna, JMB VL3, and even a B787. At our flight sim club, a member fixed the problem, (so it can be fixed) but when I got home the problem reappeared. In AI mode the avionics light up, but I can't then control the aircraft. I'm using an I7, 4070 graphics card, and Honeycomb yoke and throttle. I've turned most things off or set to minimums, but to no avail. More suggestions please !!

July 1, 20232 yr Author Ah, good questions .... Not expecting the problem to recur I didn't note the fix, and I didn't note his email address. I only know him as Matt, somewhere in South Devon.

It could be that your fellow sim club member was following procedures a little more correctly by turning on the Alternators as @CarlosF is suggesting. Having electricals and engines die afterwards if you don't, is a common symptom if you fail to do so. Are you following the checklist that's available (select the large white checkmark icon when you move the mouse to the top of the screen to show the inflight menu items)? That will point you to the right steps and switches and levers to poke or push. "That's what" - She
July 1, 20232 yr As folks above say, it is usually the alternators switched off - the aircraft runs fine for a short while until the batteries are drained and then everything stops! I have a strong hunch that the issue maybe to do with a setting in one your Honeycomb units - and probably the yoke unit. The problem can be that the default Honeycomb profiles may have some switches assigned unbeknown to the user. I think by default the Master Alternator and Battery on the Honeycomb yoke unit are assigned to the two red toggle switches. And so - if you are starting up at the runway with engine running - even though the sim starts up with the default setting of 'Alternator On', the toggle switch on your physical yoke maybe actually immediately switching it off. Very quick check - toggle the red ALT switch on the Honeycomb yoke unit to the opposite of what it currently is and try a flight. If my hunch is correct, then 'ALT off' should now be 'ALT on' and the flight should be able to continue Longer check, but worth doing because this may happen with other assignments from time to time - have a look at your controls options... Choose the Honeycomb Yoke and search for 'Alternator' - is there a switch assigned? If so, either cancel/clear that assignment or change to what you would prefer. If nothing untoward, do the same for the Honeycomb Throttle - again, there are multiple toggle and push switches - it may be that one of those is overriding the 'ready for takeoff' status of the aircraft. Shout if you are not sure how to check or alter the Honeycomb assignments and I'll happily post some screen shots. If you find that, in the MSFS cockpit, the alternator(s) of the aircraft you are flying is indeed off...and if additionally it won't switch on even when you click it with the mouse, then it is definitely a command clash from one of your Honeycomb assignments. If so, it is easily fixed. Let us know how you get on either way. July 2, 20232 yr Author Update: John Blanchfield has suggested turnng back the ignition switch one notch after engines started:don't know why yet, but it works! At last I can go flying ..... I'll find out why later. Many thanks in the meantime.
