KCOS, Colorado Springs

Featured Replies

From BMW via Orbx. KCOS. Another very fine airport from Alexey. Just the airport here, Colorado Springs is quite nicely done but probably of no interest to anyone else (no major city centre stuff). So let's go!

Modelling is excellent throughout, as usual from Alexey

Lovely setting, of course

And as you go through the entrance (and it all looks so well done I actually expected the entrance doors to slide open for me), there are people here! And what a difference it makes. The last few airports I've bought and explored have been very nicely modelled but totally lifeless, as there were no people inside. For me, this makes a huge difference as far as the feeling of realism goes.

This has a really nice feel, and is definitely one of the best airports I've bought lately

And one of the things I think is really well thought out is that the airport not just has people, it has what feels like a realistic number of people. Not every gate has masses of folks milling around, just a couple of gates are populated. I don't know how busy KCOS is in real life but it looks like a relatively quiet place and this just feels appropriate.

The outside is nothing special architecturally, but is, again, nicely done

with high quality detail and textures

And over on the other side of the airport is what I had assumed was an ANG base of some sort but is apparently Peterson Space Force Base

And very nicely done too

So all in all, a very nice package that gives you a finely detailed airport and AF base, all in a wonderful setting.

Oh, and the Astro One is fun, too!

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

So cool!  I love the detail of the C-17.

I can see why you like it. A (relatively) small gem with a beautiful natural backdrop.

Nice shots! How well done is the GA side of this airport?

Cheers Jack, and yes, it feels like a really nice little extra with the base there. In case you're interested, there's a C-17 available on .to - https://flightsim.to/file/12408/msfs-native-c-17-globemaster

Cheers John, and that pretty much sums it up.

Thanks Jim. Not sure I understand the question, in that I'm not really sure what I should look for. Don't remember seeing any GA parked there anywhere (I'm not much of a pilot kind of guy, I'm more scenery oriented. Anything I feel like flying in I park/take off from anywhere I fancy!)

Cheers Will. I really like this one, and I think I might actually take the time to do a flight from KDEN down to here in something low and slow. Lots of screenshot opportunities I would think.

Well, I hadn't registered that was where you folks are. Looks like a great place to be. Is the address published? Maybe I can look you up on Google maps and then go looking in the sim. I was planning a mosey around in the astro one or similar as it all looked quite pretty around there.

Thought about my previous response to this overnight and realised that this is possibly not the sort of information anybody would want published in this day and age. So even if I do stumble across HQ in the sim, I'll keep it to myself (but if you do see what looks like a highly pixellated and badly flown B2 pass overhead, it's probably me <grin>)
