Where in that file should I put this? Even better - can you send me a copy? I would love to test your tweaks.

Can we also get some pictures with the settings for Envshade / Envtex? I would love to add them to the mixture.

That abs() wrapper is to fix a shader generation error when using the Tomatoshade preset I've placed into this thread.

The Tomatoshade prefix also has the details in its comment section (at the bottom of the comments), where the shader name itself is GPUTerrain.fx

You'd only add the abs() wrapper if you've actually got that line in your GPUTerrain.fx, noting changing the Tomatoshade settings will also change the likelyhood of having this line.

I tested Envshade in P3D v5 while I was intially trialing the P3D v5 release, however v5 never ticked enough boxes to make it my go to sim, sorry.

Cheers

P3D 4.5.14, Orbx Global, Vector and more, lotsa planes too.

It works well now.

This line "never ticked enough boxes" makes me wonder what those boxes are.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Things like, airport elevation, parking and building issues, anti-aliasing issues, loss of WX weather radar, loss of some Orbx sceneries due to specific gfx rendering changes LM had made, loss of use of TomatoShade, loss of use of the custom cloud shader I have modified, TrueSky implementation less than optimal (now dropped from v6) meaning TrueSky was not a replacment for my custom cloud shader, tower issues with the objects database, aircraft issues with lighting and other aircraft related problems, a half assed vector improvement, introduced bugs still not resolved to this day, and probably a few more I've missed here.

Yes I did like the change from a direct lighting model to a linear lighting model, and the performance improvements were nice, although testing showed they were fairly minimal - like improving performance by tuning at the edges rather than at the root cause, meaning v5 can display a few extra 3D objects before P3D inevitably choked and crashed the fps.

In actuality the best performance improvement I've had has been newer hardware, faster RAM, better CPU and updated GFX card has made P3D a vastly improved sim for myself.

Cheers

Reminds me of a few words of enduring wisdom that came from who knows where.

Newer is not always better.

If it’s working, leave it alone.

Funny you mention hardware. Years ago when Venema was running the show over at ORBX and people were complaining about the performance of his scenery he said if you want better performance, buy a faster computer. Still true today but there is a point of diminishing returns.

Anyway, about six months ago I mortgaged the house and bought a Jetline Gravity. Works perfectly right out of the crate and I haven’t touched it except to turn it on. Glad I used the qualifier ‘always’ in my first statement 🤗

Managed to fix the purple, but my sim is very grey looking, so I will have to edit the colors every time.

Heh, "mortgaged the house", yep computer gear is expensive...

But usually it's relative where the last purchase is pretty similar overall to the latest and greatest, COVID and gfx cards excluded.

And I see people saying "just get" a 4090 for the most wonderest experience, however for many it won't be affordable, or they'll need a whole new computer, infact 4090 cards in AU are up around the 3 grand mark plus or minus a few hundred dollars, you can even pay upwards to nearly $7000.00 for one.

Glad to hear your jetline Gravity is working well 🙂

Cheers

Changed Tomato Mode. Part of the effects I keep, but the rest put off. Now I keep the desktop color settings high in Nvidia Settings. That's how I managed. Unfortunately my Aurora Borealis won't be visible, but no choice.

It came with a 3080ti which has done everything I want it to do. I'm a midline slider guy so that certainly has a lot to do with it.

I too have a 3080-Ti, and it's a great card.

Personally I target full slider tunning and all checkboxes where applicable, as well as additional configuration options only available via the prepar3D.cfg, the intent being to maximize GFX card usage without overloading.

I aim for mid to high card GFX usage as well as mid to high mem use.

To do so I have a customised main prepar3D.cfg and several further selectable custom tuning profiles held in the P3D Documents & Files path.

The custom profiles are initally created from a base P3D and manually edited since P3D will reset many custom options to defaults if trying to manage via the P3D settings UI.

Cheers

Rogen, for some weird reason I have black clouds when I use your tweaks for the cloud fx shader. Any way to fix them? I have ActiveSky and Envshade / Envtex plus Tomato. It's a lot of shading, I know. I'll be glad on suggestions.
