I have seen plenty of comments suggesting that the ground handling of numerous planes does not feel right in MSFS 2020. I like my planes to feel stable during taxi to and from the runway, and also during take off and landing.

It's true Christopher, even though some developers have been used able to use some of the workarounds introduced by ASOBO.

On some aircraft you notice it a lot less than in others. The PMDG 737 for instance has considerably tamed the effect and is one of my preferred.

I hope it'll get better by default with MFS 2024.

The issue is I’m in V5 and not V4.  His shader mod will not work in V5.

@Rogen Can your results for P3D v4.5 be replicated in P3D v5 or 6 using some other add-on?

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

It’s not on Asobo. It varies greatly with aircraft. Some are amazing and some are a mess. One of the best is A2A’s Comanche, but they do a lot of their own external flight model. There isn’t anything better or worse than P3D.

I sincerely doubt, because v5 can't use Tomato Shade. Nether v6.

Is there an alternative to Tomato Shade?

There is a lot of shading programs, but Tomato Shade is not like them. Honestly, the only similar to it I know it's PTA tweak assistant. But even for that one I am not sure.

In P3Dv5 you have RDShade and EnvShade.  I'm not aware of any add-on shader enhancements in existence or in development for v6.

Thanks. Xtreme Prototypes' next version of their Learjet 25D for P3D is planned for a version later than P3D 4.5.  If I can't get similar results to P3D that Rogen has for P3D4.5 I'd hesitate upgrading to P3D 5.x or 6.x just to get a newer version of the Learjet 25D. I'll likely just wait for the Learjet 25D for MSFS instead.

I personally am a lot more satisfied with tomato shade, because, first, it is a lot more natural to me, I do like those programs, but I firmly believe Tomato Shade is a revolution in P3D and my viewers on the channel enjoy it the most.

Well, that is personal preference, but we are discussing Rogen's preset here, and I believe Tomato Shade is essential part of it.

Hi @bofhlusr,

Unfortunatelly not in the same way, but you might want to take a look at various posts of @adam77.

He has a YouTube channel and has a nice set of config presets to suit P3D v5.

The only problem is that he distributes the files via his discord server and requires a valid phone number (and perhaps more) to join the server in order to download the files.

Plus he can be a bit on the prickly side.

Cheers

I won’t be handing Discord any phone number/email over for a shader preset any time soon.

As per what Bob mentioned there is RDShade and EnvShade for P3D v5.

I have given them a go as part of my testing of v5 to see what could be achieved and while they certainly provide options you wouldn't otherwise have, they are not in the same league as Tomatoshade, which is much more powerful in IMHO. I'd class Tomatoshade as similar to PTA in what could be achieved, unfortuantely PTA has died along with its author and Tomatoshade is for P3D v4.5.13/14.

And yes while Tomatoshade is a part of what I use to configure the look and feel of my v4.5.14 P3D, the cloud shader is a separate item and one can be used without the other just fine.

Another issue is shaders tend to change with each P3D release point and can mean a lot of complex programming work to bring a shader package up to date to suit a point release, the complexity means the level of programming talent required is rare (and even more rare now in the P3D world).

The above said both RDShade and EnvShade for P3D v5 are far easier for the non-technical or non-programmer to use and and are fine for their scope of intent.

Cheers

Yes was a bit of a sticking point for myself too, Adam said he needs it to stop trolls joining his discord and that discord was the only free method supplying the size/bandwidth for file distribution he needed.

I understand the files are configuration files that don't take a lot of space ?

Perhaps someone else on the forum already has them who can make them available ?

Cheers
