Anybody have any Gsync ultimate advice?

Recommended Posts

I think in the next few months I will finally retire my 43" samsung 4k HDR tv and replace with a monitor.  The big problem is it will be hard to find something that checks all the boxes.

-Considering downgrading from 4k to either 1440P or a widescreen.  That opens up more doors but will also create more criteria to judge.  Widescreen vs 16:9 for example.

-Not interested in a curved display.

-Main reason for my switch is to get full use out of my 4090.  So that's why I am leaning to gsync ultimate.  Or gsync.  But not really interested in just gsync compatible.

-Obviously I'm focused on having a good VRR refresh rate range.  I'm more interested in the low end of the range.  So I need it to go down to a very low frame number, but don't really play any FPS games where I'm super concerned about 240hz for example.

-Since I've gotten used to a bigger display at 43", I don't see myself wanting to go much lower than 31-35.

Anybody have any advice in this class?  I'm really looking to maximize frame generation in msfs.

Your search criteria is nearly an empty set...only thing I see out there is the 32" ASUS PG32UQX (4K), on sale now at the ASUS site for a whopping $2000.

There are a couple 21:9 curved ultrawide options like the Alienware AW3423UW (34" 3440 x 1440) and AW3821WW (38" 3840 x 1600), which are both curved G-Sync Ultimate monitors.  Not sure that Ultimate does much for simming, as I believe that frame generation does not work with HDR10, which seems to be the real advantage of Ultimate.  Anyway, they both cost around half of the aforementioned ASUS 4K display.

I have a two year old AW3420DW (34" 3440 x 1440 curved-screen G-Sync) on my MSFS/XPlane box, and it's a solid performer with an 4090FE.

According to the nvidia G-Sync monitor list at https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/  this 2021 C1 4K series TV is G-Sync compatible (as opposed to having true hardware G-Sync capability).

thanks for the reply guys.  Just circling back to this thread since I first posted.  I think I also came to the conclusion that  Gsync Ultimate isn't necessary for me.  So now channeling my search to gsync and excluding ultimate and compatible from search.  Bob quick question.  Do you find the curved screen plays nicely with virtual cockpits?  I had a preconceived notion that it would distort the VC.  But perhaps that's not true at all.  Also how is widescreen in your opinion?

Indeed, not sure how I missed that - maybe because it looked so good I wanted it to be hardware Gsync. It appears LG doesn't have any 4K Gsync or Ultimate monitors/tv's. Shame because one of those 4K OLED's would look spectacular.

When sitting in front of the curved display, the curve is not really noticeable...no perception of distortion due to the curve.  Works just fine with VCs.

Yeah, I wish I could find a large-format G-Sync display.  Biggest I see anywhere now is 32"...I'd love to find something like the 55" TV I use on my P3D machine, but with a G-Sync module in it.

Here's an interesting list showing min and max VRR range for compatibles, along with whether they are Nvidia certified.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tests/motion/refresh-rate

The min refresh rate for most is <20 Hz which should be more than adequate for MSFS if you've got a strong CPU and Nvidia GPU.

I’m not sure that matters much. RTings tested it and the C1 is good for G-Sync below 20FPS. God forbid anyone has FPS that low 🙂

I have a C1 as my primary monitor (but I’m driving it with a 4090) and it’s been fantastic. Amazing color, contrast, and g-sync performance.

A bigger issue with high refresh rate OLEDs is a bit of OLED flicker in dark (night flying) scenes at low FPS. It relates to the charge duration of OLED pixels. But if you can keep the FPS up this won’t be an issue… and if you have a 4xxx series card with frame gen, this certainly won’t be an issue.
